the thing about negative reviews

The thing about negative reviews is this: I hate writing them. It makes me very uncomfortable to know that there is a very real person out there who worked very hard on something, and then I come along and talk about how I didn’t like it. But if we’re going to have an honest relationship full of integrity on this here blog, I have be truthful. And the truth is, not every book is for everyone.

I will always try my best to be respectful and agree to disagree. I’m not here to bash anyone. Kindness goes a long way. Let’s all just acknowledge that there are different strokes for different folks. Kindly.

And honestly, the fact that anyone can write so many words to make a book out of them is impressive in my book.

That being said, I’m adding some of my favorite recent reads while getting the blog up and running. I hope you will find something you love. As I add books in real time, we will be sure to find some negative reviews. You may love something I dislike and vice versa. But let’s discuss! That’s what I’m here for – to talk books. Feel free to leave a comment any time.

What are you reading now? What’s your favorite book you’ve read so far this year?

Xo,
Melisa

Thanks for sharing this because it’s good to know I’m not alone. This year an author sent me a not-so-nice email because I wrote, what I thought, was an average review. I gave it 3 stars and a short paragraph saying that it just missed some things for me. That means I liked it but didn’t love it. To me a bad review is a 1 with a paragraph of insults. I understand it’s someone’s precious work and livelihood, but does that mean negative reviews are taboo? Anyway, thanks again for keeping me company.
