"The faculties are divided into two orders--the Affective and Intellectual." The chart furrther divides Affective into Genus I, Propensities (9 characteristics) and Genus II, Sentiments (12 faculties); Intellectual is divided into Genus I, 12 Perceptive faculties, and genus II, 2 Reflecting faculties. The examiner is to mark the comparative development of an organ on a twenty point scale, "according to a scale assumed by the Phrenological Society of Edinburgh".
