The ebullition cycle of nucleate pool boiling from a heating strip was studied through the use of high-speed motion pictures of schlieren and shadowgraph images. The effects of bubble agitation on thermal layer and neighboring bubbles were observed. An over-all model of ebullition based upon experimental observation was proposed that included an analytical method for predicting bubble growth rate and an analysis of the factors that influence the magnitude of the waiting period (time interval between bubbles at a particular site). Thermal-layer thickness, cavity size, and area of influence of a growing bubble are considered. A film supplement is made available. (Author).

Completely updated, this graduate text describes the current state of boiling heat transfer and two-phase flow, in terms through which students can attain a consistent understanding. Prediction of real or potential boiling heat transfer behaviour, both in steady and transient states, is covered to aid engineering design of reliable and effective systems.

Pressure, volume, temperature, internal energy, enthalpy, and entropy of normal hydrogen gas have been tabulated along isobars temperature to 300°K and from a pressure of 1 to 100 atmospheres. The source of data is the Research Paper 1932 of the National Bureau of Standards Journal of Research. The method is described by which the data presented in Research Paper 1932 is reduced to properties directly useful for engineering calculations. A method is also described for estimating the effect of ortho-para compositions upon the tabulated properties. Tabular values are presented in the dimensional units of the metric system. The tabulations are also available in the dimensional units of the British system as Technical Note no. 120, Supplement A.
