The emphasis here is on their "golden age" in the 1980s and 1990s when, despite the economic and social baggage of their struggling country, Polish climbers were the first to tackle the world's highest mountains during winter, including the first winter ascents on seven of the world's fourteen 8000-meter peaks: Everest, Manaslu, Dhaulagiri, Cho Oyu, Kanchenjunga, Annapurna, and Lhotse. Such successes, however, came at a serious cost: 80 percent of Poland's finest high-altitude climbers died on the high mountains during the same period they were pursuing these first ascents. Award-winning writer Bernadette McDonald addresses the social, political, and cultural context of this golden age, and the hardships of life under Soviet rule. Polish climbers, she argues, were so tough because their lives at home were so tough—they lost family members to World War II and its aftermath and were so much more poverty-stricken than their Western counterparts that they made much of their own climbing gear. While Freedom Climbers tells the larger story of an era, McDonald shares charismatic personal narratives such as that of Wanda Rutkiewicz, expected to be the first woman to climb all 8000-meter peaks until she disappeared on Kanchenjunga in 1992; Jerzy Kukuczka, who died in a fall while attempting the south face of Lhotse; and numerous other renowned climbers including Voytek Kurtyka, Artur Hajzer, Andrej Zawaka, and Krzysztof Wielicki. This is a fascinating window into a different world, far-removed from modernity yet connected by the strange allure of the mountain landscape, and a story of inspiring passion against all odds. Extraordinary Wealth

Book Description

In Extraordinary Wealth, the authors present the three levels of wealth creation, and an outline to help you reach them: LEVEL ONE You have enough passive income from your assets to replace your paycheck when you stop working. Reaching this level means you have a stable retirement. LEVEL TWO You have free capital or "playchecks," which are income-producing assets that are not responsible for maintaining your lifestyle. Reaching this level means you have financial freedom. LEVEL THREE You have earned income beyond retirement and continue to earn substantially more than you spend. Reaching this level means you have multigenerational wealth. Many people would love to reach that first level. Sadly, almost no one does. If you're dedicated and disciplined, this book will teach you how to progress through levels one and two and ultimately reach the third level, creating multigenerational wealth.

Truths

Book Description

Over thirty years ago, I began writing articles to send out as letters to the editor in a number of newspapers. As matters developed, a number of the articles were too long to be put on the editorial page and wound up nesting in my files. A few of the longer ones were published in magazines, but none of them yielded any money. That was okay by me because being a writer had been my desire from childhood. I had strong beliefs regarding various issues affecting my fellow man, and I continued to put to the pen hundreds of articles over a period of forty years. My main motive was to discuss a number of truths that people could benefit from by reading. The more truths a person has under his belt, the better off he or she is. My motive in writing these articles has been primarily altruistic because no money has been involved. I continued to write because doing so was therapeutic for me. I enjoy sharing my mind with anyone who loves to read. It is my hope that the articles published in this book will add positively to the mind-set of the reader. Although I quote the Bible in perhaps 60 percent of my articles, I do not mean for my writing to take the place of scripture. This book is not the kind that a person is likely to read straight through without a break. It usually takes time for helpful truths to be digested, but it is my hope that the words I pen will help the readers in their efforts to lead satisfactory lives. May the Lord Jesus be with your spirit. Donald R. James

The Message

Book Description

Joe Coleman made world headlines when he revealed that the Blessed Virgin would be appearing in Knock, County Mayo, in September 2009. Many of the 10,000 people who showed up that day claimed they saw the sun dancing, and Joe himself received a message from Our Lady. Though mistrusted and hounded by the “official” Church and some in the media, Joe earned the respect and trust of many more. Now, for the first time, Joe Coleman tells his own story. A humble man from a very ordinary background, Joe had the gift of “second sight” from an early age. He first saw Our Lady when he was just twelve years old. Then, at the age of 33, Joe broke his back in an accident; he technically “died” on the operating table, waking 30 minutes later to the astonishment of the doctors and nurses. During this time, Joe claims he visited heaven, seeing the most beautiful sights of his life. It was after this experience that Joe’s true spiritual calling came into its own, and he soon gained a reputation as a remarkable healer and clairvoyant. He spent twenty years healing people who came to him. During this time, he continued to receive messages from the Blessed Virgin. All changed in March 2009 when Our Lady appeared and asked him to bring a young man to Medjugorje. This led to the remarkable events of the past year. The Message is a powerful true story of faith and revelation. It culminates with the messages Joe has received from Our Lady, messages of incredible changes coming to our world, changes that will see hope triumph over despair – as long as we pray.
