Why I Am an Atheist Who Believes in God

Book Description

Caught between the beauty of his grandchildren and grief over a friend's death, Frank Schaeffer finds himself simultaneously believing and not believing in God--an atheist who prays. Schaeffer wrestles with faith and disbelief, sharing his innermost thoughts. He writes as an imperfect son, husband and grandfather whose love for his family, art and life trumps the ugly theologies of an angry God and the atheist vision of a cold, meaningless universe.

Believe, Live, Run

Book Description

In his story he introduces how he has become from a "village peasant" into a biomedical engineer, and what extreme difficulties he had to challenge during his way towards fulfilling childhood dreams. Long-distance running also played a major role in his complete recovery, therefore, in this regards, but regardless sport, he introduces that knowledge and life aspect being useful for everyone, which helps us to taste the joy of life even in the most desperate moments. "My body no longer functions the way I want it to. My limbs no longer move as I would have them. My pulse is sky-high. I'm exhausted. I am in spasms, my legs ache. I can hardly maintain proper posture and move at the same time. I am exhausted not only physically, but mentally as well. Psychologically I'm falling apart; in my head, I am starting to unravel. I would love to stop, to give up. But despite all this, a voice whispers in my ear: "Don't give up. Keep going. One more step. It's just one more step." To keep on, the voice has to whisper in every moment, because one more step is, in reality, many thousand steps until the finish line. Several thousands of little obstacles to conquer. So many little emotional low points to get over. The phantoms of treatment received for a malignant tumor also surface among the memories above along with those of a marathon I had previously run. What the two have in common is that reaching the goal in both cases required not only physical but mental stamina as well. "Why me?" Asks everyone who has ever been in this situation. I am a strong, happy young person with my whole life ahead of me. It is just the beginning. I'm in my early twenties. I resisted, I was angry at the world that all this was happening to me. In this book, I seek and find the answer to the question "Why me?" I invite the reader to join me on this journey: it is a story about wanting to live." Recommendations: "A real story, miracle about human will, outreaching our mind. In the book he shows that we can be able to achieve everything even in the most complicated moments." - Tamas Bodis, ultrarunner, Spartathlon winner "He represents the truth with oiliness and passion, claiming that life is the biggest gift. Now he reveals his gratitude in the form of a book, also exemplarily encouraging us for activity and struggle" - Gaspar Csere, Olimpic marathon runner "You are the example on that we should not accept less than we are able to! In particular if the opportunity of failure is also there, just like victory. Because it is always us who decide the competition between the two." - Gabor Rakonczay, world recorder extreme athlete "The book aims to present a personal aspect on one of the most insane disease, malign tumour and sufferings experienced during the healing therapy. In the fire of suffering, a new personality, new life goal was forged. There are not many bigger gifts than learning from the experiences of others, and this book introduces many such experiences, which may set an example for all of us." - Peter Turai, MD "Only the bravest are able to make the lives of other people easier inspired by their own personal tragedies, turning towards new and noble targets, making the lives of other people easier. This book will be really helpful for others, both for ill and healthy persons in this sick world." - Orsolya Kiss, MD "Honest, motivating, professionally perfectly correct." - Regional Health Foundation "I recommend the book for all such readers, who would like to learn an inspiring, not everyday life story, and after that we may also look at our life otherwise." - Szabolcs Bozsanyi, MD

The Christian Atheist

Book Description

Growing up, all my friends would have described my family as a Christian family. I assumed all my friends were Christians as well. We all believed in God. We occasionally attended church. We were good people. Even though we believed in God, we didn’t know his word, didn’t understand the gospel, and didn’t pursue his will. We believed in God, but we lived as if he didn’t exist. After pastoring for eighteen years, I’ve noticed a large percentage of people in my church living similar lives. Some seem to be Christian in name only without a lot of visible spiritual fruit. Others boldly claim Christ is Lord while living lives diametrically opposed to the teachings in scripture. The more I looked, the more I found Christian Atheists everywhere. While it is often easy to spot the hypocrisy in others, it is generally more difficult to see in the mirror. One day in an honest moment, I painfully admitted that although I unquestionably believed in God, I was leading the church as if he didn’t exist. I wrongly depended more on my own abilities than on his Spirit. Sadly, I dangerously cared more what people thought about me than what God thought about me. And although I preached about putting your whole faith in God, I still lived as if everything was up to me.The book Christian Atheism reflects my personal journey toward a more authentic God-honoring life.

Running on Faith

Book Description

In 2008, Jason Lester became the first person with a disability to finish the Ultraman World Championship alongside able-bodied competitors. With the use of only three limbs, Jason competed in one of the most demanding endurance races in the world, swimming 6.2 miles, biking 261.4 miles, and running 52.4 miles to the finish line. Jason has completed over seventy triathlons, biathlons, marathons, Ironmans, and Ultramans. In 2009, he became the first male triathlete to win an ESPY Award and the fifteenth athlete in the history of Ultraman to complete both the Ultraman World Championship and Ultraman Canada in the same year. Yet Jason Lester's life as an athlete almost never happened. When a speeding car ran a red light, a bike ride to the local video store nearly became Jason's last, sending him 130 feet into the air and ultimately to the hospital with twenty broken bones. The pain was intense and long rehabilitation grueling, compounded by the sudden death of his father (his best friend and mentor) and the realization that his right arm was paralyzed. Only twelve years old and struggling to heal amid the grief, Jason miraculously found the strength to fight his way back. Without the use of his arm, he refused to give up the sports he'd grown to love, recommitting himself to life and ultimately surpassing goals that few dared to set. Running on Faith reveals how to develop the mind-set of a true competitor and includes riveting stories of the precarious and often unforeseen conditions encountered on the race path—jellyfish-infested waters, suffocating heat, and blinding sheets of rain. With passion, dedication, and strength of purpose, Jason shares his experience facing extreme challenges head-on, gleaning insight from each trial. He offers the principles he's learned to live by in order to accomplish his goals and shows how they can be applied to the tests we all face. An inspirational guide to overcoming adversity, recognizing God's guiding hand in our lives, and achieving our dreams, Running on Faith is a spirited testament to the power of faith.

Altar Ego

Book Description

You are NOT who you think you are. In fact, according to bestselling author Craig Groeschel in Altar Ego, you need to take your idea of your own identity, lay it down on the altar, and sacrifice it. Give it to God. Offer it up. Why? Because you are who GOD says you are. And until you’ve sacrificed your broken concept of your identity, you won’t become who you are meant to be. When we place our false labels and self-deception on the altar of God’s truth, we discover who we really are as his sons and daughters. Instead of an outward-driven, approval-based ego, we learn to live with an “altar” ego, God’s vision of who we are becoming. Discover how to trade in your broken ego and unleash your altar ego to become a living sacrifice. Once we know our true identity and are growing in our Christ-like character, then we can behave accordingly, with bold behavior, bold prayers, bold words, and bold obedience. Altar Ego reveals who God says you are, and then calls you to live up to it.
