They were the favorite game fish of Ernest Hemingway and Zane Grey. They can grow to greater than 1,000 pounds. They can reach burst speeds of 70 miles an hour. Their fighting stamina and migratory habits are legendary. But blue marlin are not easy to catch. Even experienced anglers typically spend weeks or months - not to mention small fortunes - trying to connect with a precious few of these elusive ocean prizes ... Steve Campbell has answered practically every question the avid bluewater angler could possibly think to ask him-who, why, where, when and then some ... Steve is a highly seasoned and skilled sport-fishing captain from New Zealand. He has spent a lifetime fishing throughout the South Pacific ... With more than 1,000 stunning color photographs and original illustrations ... Far more than an elaborate fishing book, [this] is also a visual feast of the unspoiled ocean environment as seen through the lenses of talented photographers Doug Perrine of Hawaii, Jon Schwartz of California, and Kim Westerkov of New Zealand. Internationally award-winning marine photographer Perrine spent one month in Tonga aboard (and overboard) Campbell's boat, Reel Addiction, to capture vivid underwater images of blue marlin and other beautiful creatures - whales to sharks to seabirds - of the South Pacific"--Publisher's description.

Morgan is bored with his life. Nothing exciting ever happens in his house. He can calculate his parents' daily routine to the exact minute. He feels old before his time, with nothing to look forward to but more boredom. Then one dreary Sunday, Morgan has a vision of a magnificent fish, a leaping marlin wild in the sea, a creature so free that it would rather die than be tamed. The dream (if dream it is) is so vivid, Morgan feels a shocking rush of strength and speed racing through his veins, smells the salt air, and tastes the electricity of an impending ocean storm. For one brief exhilarating moment, sitting in a cramped apartment on a city block where every building looks exactly like the next, Morgan is that marlin, and from that moment on, he begins to change. A comic Metamorphosis for kids, this poignant, gently humorous, and highly original tale by actor, playwright, and first-time novelist James DeVita is a tender testament to following one's heart. Through a series of miraculous and sometimes ridiculous events, Morgan comes to understand that he has the power to be whatever he wants to be -- even a fish -- as long as he believes in himself.

This book is open access under a CC BY-NC 2.5 license. The Gulf of Mexico is an open and dynamic marine ecosystem rich in natural resources but heavily impacted by human activities, including agricultural, industrial, commercial and coastal development. The Gulf of Mexico has been continuously exposed to petroleum hydrocarbons for millions of years from natural oil and gas seeps on the sea floor, and more recently from oil drilling and production activities located in the water near and far from shore. Major accidental oil spills in the Gulf are infrequent; two of the most significant include the Ixtoc I blowout in the Bay of Campeche in 1979 and the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill in 2010. Unfortunately, baseline assessments of the status of habitats and biota in the Gulf of Mexico before these spills either were not available, or the data had not been systematically compiled in a way that would help scientists assess the potential short-term and long-term effects of such events. This 2-volume series compiles and summarizes thousands of data sets showing the status of habitats and biota in the Gulf of Mexico before the Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill. Volume 2 covers historical data on commercial and recreational fisheries, with an analysis of marketing trends and drivers; ecology, populations and risks to birds, sea turtles and marine mammals in the Gulf; and diseases and mortalities of fish and other animals that inhabit the Gulf of Mexico.
