Letterbook containing contemporary copies of correspondence, orders, etc., mainly between George Atkinson, and his superior, John Thomas, factor at the Moose factory, Sept. 22, 1784 - July 21, 1785. There are also orders issued by Atkinson to James Robertson at Rupert's Bay and a letter from Edward Jarvis at Fort Albany. Letters discuss the prospects and results of the fur trade and the work of company factors, laborers, and Indians to that end; plans for experiments with whaling and exploration to the north of Eastmain; and problems and logistics of everyday existence -- provisions, manpower, equipment, etc. Also mentioned is the encroachment of settlers on company lands.
