Decentralized Scheduling of Discrete Production Systems with Limited Buffers

Book Description

Modern production systems have become more flexible and agile. For them, a suitable control and planning method is needed. Agent-based systems offer the required characteristics. The contributions of these work are a remodeling of the Shifting Bottleneck heuristic to include limited buffers, the development of a decentralized multi-agent system for production planning, and the adaptation of the heuristic to the agent system. It concludes with evaluations of real-world production systems.

Large Scale Systems

Book Description

Hardbound. This volume, covering both the theoretical and applied aspects of large scale systems (LSS), presents both the state-of-the-art and current trends of development. Ideas are also presented on reviving the growth of LSS and applying experience to industry and society. Subjects include data and interaction analysis, decomposition, partition, hierarchical and decentralized control, robustness and safety, control structures, reliability, conflict resolution, knowledge-based systems and others.

Simio and Simulation: Modeling, Analysis, Applications

Book Description

"This book opens up the world of simulation to you by providing the basics of general simulation techonology, identifying the skills needed for successful simulation projects, and introducting a state-of-the-art simulation package." --

Planning and Scheduling in Manufacturing and Services

Book Description

Pinedo is a major figure in the scheduling area (well versed in both stochastics and combinatorics) , and knows both the academic and practitioner side of the discipline. This book includes the integration of case studies into the text. It will appeal to engineering and business students interested in operations research.

Handbook of Production Scheduling

Book Description

This book concentrates on real-world production scheduling in factories and industrial settings. It includes industry case studies that use innovative techniques as well as academic research results that can be used to improve production scheduling. Its purpose is to present scheduling principles, advanced tools, and examples of innovative scheduling systems to persons who could use this information to improve their own production scheduling.

Recent Developments in Production Research

Book Description

Production engineering plays a crucial role in enhancing industrial productivity. Interest in production research is therefore growing rapidly and, in only a few short years, terms such as FMS, JIT, expert systems, CIM, and robotics, have become indispensable to a production engineer's vocabulary. These new technologies have led to different kinds of design and implementation problems in areas such as production planning, scheduling, warehousing, facilities layout, inventory control, etc. and have renewed production researchers' interest in solving these problems. While advances and new solutions and procedures are regularly shared via technical journals, researchers and practitioners meet periodically to discuss their latest finds and occasionally these findings are published in book form to accelerate dissemination of information. This book is such an effort. It contains 111 papers selected from the 450 presented during the IXth International Conference on Production Research. The papers chosen provide new information and new algorithms, designs and application, or promote new ideas and points of view.
