Digest of Comments on the Pharmacopoeia of the United States of America (Eighth Decennial Revision) And on the National Formulary (Third Edition)

Book Description

Excerpt from Digest of Comments on the Pharmacop ia of the United States of America (Eighth Decennial Revision) And on the National Formulary (Third Edition): For the Calendar Year Ending December 31, 1909 The publication of the Spanish edition of the Pharmacopoeia of the United States attracted considerable attention, particularly in the United States itself, and the precedent thus established will no doubt be followed up by a more prompt translation into Spanish of the U. S. P. IX. This bulletin has been compiled largely from material directly accessible to the compilers and evidences the advantages that would accrue to physicians and pharmacists interested in pharmacopedics if all of the necessary literature were more directly accessible. So far as is possible the U. S. P. As well as the N. F. Preparations are commented on in connection with the official name of the drug or chemical. National Formulary preparations of a complex nature and preparations the active constituent of which is not official are usually commented on under the name of the preparation. Book Description

Excerpt from Digest of Comments on the Pharmacopoeia of the United States of America (Eighth Decennial Revision) And the National Formulary (Third Edition) For the Calendar Year Ending December 31, 1908 The pharmacopoeial literature for the year 1908 is particularly noteworthy for contributions that should serve to arouse a wide Spread demand for international uniformity, not only in the strength of official medicaments, but also in nomenclature and the require ments made in connection with chemical tests to establish the identity and purity of official articles. With the progress of pharmacopoeial work the importance of greater uniformity in nomenclature becomes more and more evident, and the need for some international agreement in regard to Latin titles would appear to be highly desirable. The rapidity with which medical literature travels and the speed with which new discoveries become general property should serve to suggest the desirability of some concerted attempt, in the near future, to correct existing abuses in connection with the nomenclature of official drugs and prepa rations. Book Description

Excerpt from Digest of Comments on the Pharmacop ia of the United States of America (Eighth Decennial Revision) And on the National Formulary (Third Edition) For the Calendar Year Ending December 31, 1911 An effort has been made to re ect at some length all of the litera ture relating to official substances, and to give, in as concise a form as practicable, working references to the unimportant as well as the important communications on any given subject. In connection with many of the topics under active discussion such as vaccines, sera, salvarsan, Wassermann reaction and biologic methods of diagnosis - it is, of course, practically impossible to do more than re ect the general trend of the discussion; any attempt to include a complete bibliography of these several subjects would be so compendious as to overshadow and quite bury the material available on the less important topics or articles.
