Presents the results of a community-based observer scheme mapping the distribution of birds in the south western agricultural area in the period 1987-1990. Analyses the factors involved in changes in bird distribution and abundance, and provides suggestions for incorporating nature conservation into land management in order to protect the declining native bird population.
