GOD'S ENDURING PROMISES - FAITHFUL PROMISES FOR EVERYDAY LIVING

Book Description

The bible says that we should not “make idols or set up an image or a sacred stone for ourselves.” God is a Jealous God and He delights in the praises and worship of His children. He promised that if we worship Him and Him only, that He will make us rejoice over our enemies; that your “light will break forth like the dawn and your healing will quickly appear. That your righteousness will go before you and the glory of the Lord will be your rear guard. Then you will call and the Lord will answer; and you will cry for help and he will say: Here I am” Isaiah 58:8. When we talk about idols, we tend to think of graven images; but not so. An idol is anything that we place before God; it can be a spouse, a friend, money, power, drugs, sex or anything that interfere or takes time away from our worship with God. Whatever you find yourself spending time with more than your time of worship with God is your idol. We may not think of these things as idols, but consider the amount of time we spend stressing or concentrating our focus on the things of the world that ultimately will be the cause of our losing our way to salvation. Sometimes we forget to honor the Lord who makes all things available to us only because one of our personal idols require more of our time, so we place God aside and focus our attention on wandering further away from Him; not knowing that He grieves at our disobedience. But, it is not too late; the bible says that the arms of God are not short; His ears are not deafened to our cries. I know sometimes we may feel that God will not answer or forgive us because we keep going back to the very idol we confessed to have left, but God wants to forgive us; for that reason He sent His only son to die for our sins, so that the world through Him might be saved. God knows how weak and sinful we are. No matter how holy and righteous we may think we are, ultimately, we are powerless and wretched at best. Paul, in II Corinthians says this of the flesh: “I was given a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Paul also says that he tried to do good deeds, but often ends up doing what he swore he would not do. We are just like Paul; we are weak and impressionable and prone to sin. That is why we need to have the Holy Spirit lead and guide our daily walk. We need to prostrate ourselves, lay our souls bare in front of He who pours out grace and forgiveness abundantly. In Christ, we are not of this world, but if we continue along the path of destruction, we will find ourselves standing outside the gates of heaven, asking “Lord where did I go wrong?” Genesis 28:12 “I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” Let us ask God now to forgive us our sins so that we can fully partake of His bountiful promises.

Renovation of the Heart

Book Description

As Christians, we know that we are new creations in Jesus. So we try to act differently, hoping this will make us more like Him. But changing our outward behavior doesn’t change our hearts. Only by God’s grace can we be transformed internally. Renovation of the Heart lays a biblical foundation for understanding what best-selling author Dallas Willard calls the “transformation of the spirit”—a divine process that “brings every element in our being, working from inside out, into harmony with the will of God.” This fresh approach to spiritual growth explains the biblical reasons why Christians need to undergo change in six aspects of life: thought, feeling, will, body, social context, and soul. Willard also outlines a general pattern of transformation in each area, not as a sterile formula but as a practical process that you can follow without the guilt or perfectionism so many Christians wrestle with. Don’t settle for complacency. Accept the challenge Renovation of the Heart offers to become an intentional apprentice of Jesus Christ, changing daily as you walk with Him.
