Book Description

It’s the same things that we as humans look for – love, respect, and understanding are most important; adopt a pet and make it a friend.

Four-Legged Friends in the Bark Park

Book Description

Everyone can be bullied. Even dogs! Max the dog is very smart, but Max has anxiety because he’s being bullied. It all started at the local dog park when Max was attending training classes. Other dogs bullied poor Max, but his friends Helen and Greg helped him get through it and put a stop to Max’s anxiety. Children will learn from reading Four-Legged Friends in the Bark Park that being nervous has nothing to do with how smart someone is. Whether it’s dogs or humans, bullying is a bad thing. Book Description

In this wonderful collection, the children address such appealing topics as the history of how dogs got to be domesticated, what makes dogs so lovable, a candid comparison of dogs versus cats, what benefits dogs and people derive from living together, what dogs would say about the people in their lives, the personal comments veterinarians offer to dogs when patient and doctor are alone, how to show love to your dog, and why indeed a dog can aptly be called mans best friend. Here are a few choice examples: Dogs used to travel in packs, until one day they saw a persons home and thought it was a bed-and-breakfast for dogs! (Dan, age 11) Nowadays, all dogs want better foodlike filet mignon! (Jared, age 13) Who else but a dog would be sloppy enough to want to be close to a man? (Emily, age 11) Dogs are mans best friend because dogs are color-blind and so they love all the people exactly the same. (Alyssa, age 11)

My Dog Always Eats First

Book Description

A weary-looking man stands at an intersection, backpack at his feet. Curled up nearby is a mixed-breed dog, unfazed by the passing traffic. The man holds a sign that reads, ¿Two old dogs need help. God bless.¿ What¿s happening here? Leslie Irvine breaks new ground in the study of homelessness by investigating the frequently noticed, yet underexplored, role that animals play in the lives of homeless people. Irvine conducted interviews on streetcorners, in shelters, even at highway underpasses, to provide insights into the benefits and liabilities that animals have for the homeless. She also weighs the perspectives of social service workers, veterinarians, and local communities. Her work provides a new way of looking at both the meaning of animal companionship and the concept of home itself.
