Chiefly correspondence and other papers of Hill and various persons relating to the preparation and distribution of an account of her father's life entitled Holmes Hinkley, an Industrial Pioneer, 1793-1866 (1913), edited by Walter S. Hinchman. Subjects include Hinkley's business activities, financial records of his company, Hinkley Locomotive Works, the disposition of its locomotives, publication of the book, and donation of Hinkley's letters to the Bostonian Society. Many of the letters contain historical information regarding specific locomotives, the construction of the Hinkley boiler, and various railroad companies. Correspondents include Daniel F. Child, Hinkley's partner and treasurer of the locomotive works, Charles W. Eliot, president of Harvard University, Walter S. Hinchman, and Ezra R. Russell, Burlington, Vt.

Isaac Stearns (d.1671) and his family immigrated from England to Cambridge, Massachusetts. Charles Stearns (d.1695) immigrated from England to Watertown, Massachusetts and married twice. Nathanial Stearns immigrated from England to Dedham, Massachusetts, married twice, and died after 1690. Descendants of the three immigrants lived throughout the United States.
