I'm a Fan

Book Description

"A fast, fizzing cherry bomb of a debut . . . I'm a Fan will stick with you for a very long time." —The Observer Astounding, addictive, and screaming with originality, I'm a Fan is a blisteringly smart novel on obsession and privilege. I stalk a woman on the internet who is sleeping with the same man as I am. The unnamed narrator in I’m a Fan is obsessed; obsessed with the married man she is sleeping with and with one of his other lovers who is an influencer. Through the prism of this unequal, unfaithful relationship, she examines the complexities of desire and privilege. With an unforgiving eye, the narrator relentlessly dissects the behaviour of all involved in the entanglement, herself included, and makes startling connections between the power struggles at the heart of human relationships and those of the wider world. I’m a Fan offers an incandescent critique of class, race, social media, patriarchy’s hold on us, and our cultural obsession with status and how that status is conveyed. In this gripping debut, Sheena Patel announces herself as a dynamic new voice in literature, capable of rendering a rollercoaster of emotions viscerally on the page.

OWN VOICE

Book Description

24 autobiographical life reflections: «I'm a fan of brave people who live according to their ideals even if others consider them lost or misplaced... I am a fan of conversations that are not utopian but speak of realities. I am a fan of the genuine, of life, of the achievements but also of the failures, of trying and not succeeding, of following our own dictate even at the risk of being wrong. I am a fan of the souls that put their essence before the rituals and of those authentic places that I discover while wandering.» 4TREBOL.COM

New Britain

Book Description

New Britain was once known as the "Hardware Capital of the World," and it is this that has made the city famous. But as well as its rich industrial history, New Britain has a diverse and dynamic cultural heritage. As its name suggests, the town was originally settled by people of British descent, but in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century it became a haven for immigrants fleeing oppression or economic hardship in Ireland, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Russia, Lithuania, Armenia, the Ukraine, Poland, and Greece. The photographs that make up this fascinating visual history bring life to the changes that took place in New Britain between 1920 and 1970. They show how much the city has developed and evolved as well as providing an intimate glimpse of the daily life of New Britain's many ethnic communities. Of particular interest are the images of women which together paint a vivid picture of their unique contribution to the city and its heritage.
