This report reviews the activities of the federal science and technology community during the year and describes major developments that have influenced it. Chapter 1 sets out the context that shapes federal science and technology (S & T). Chapter 2 provides the historical development and recent projects of governance groups, including the Advisory Council on Science and Technology, the Council of Science and Technology Advisors, and the Federal S & T Community Management Secretariat. Chapter 3 profiles the work of the Canadian government in developing and adopting its Framework for Science and Technology Advice. Chapter 4 examines the statistics of government investments in S & T. The appendix presents highlights of the performance and achievements of 22 science-based departments and agencies.
