This letter is dated 3 May 1763, is addressed to an unidentified male, and expresses pleasure at receiving the addressee's congratulations on his re-appointment to an office. An inscription in another hand reads: 'Letter on his appointment as First Lord of the Admiralty'. This item bears the earlier collection number (accession number) M5245. Book Description

He has received many letters from architects and refers to Cockerell as another applicant for the same unidentified position/project, which is to be decided by lot. He has written to Lord Chichester on the matter. [This may refer to the position of architect to the Post Office. S P Cockerell's pupil, Joseph Kay, secured this position in 1811. Thomas Pelham, 2nd Earl of Chichester, was the joint-postmaster general 1807-1823. ].
