The advice of Luqman to his son is very significant because Luqman was not just an ordinary man, he was a wise man who was given wisdom from Allah. Allah testified about his wisdom and recorded his advice in a surah of the Quran which carries his name, Luqman.

'Umar Ibn Al-Khaṭṭâb

Book Description

Islam Folklore Tales of Luqman The Wise Bilingual Edition English & Spanish

Book Description

Luqman (also known as Luqman the Wise, Luqmaan, Lukman, and Luqman al-Hakeem. was a wise man for whom Surah Luqman, the thirty-first sura (chapter) of the Qur'an, was named. Luqman (c. 1100 BC) is believed to be from Africa and is of Ethiopian descent. There are many stories about Luqman in Persian, Arabic and Turkish literature and the primary historical sources are the Tafsir ibn Kathir and Stories of the Qur'an by Ibn Kathir. The Qur'an does not state whether or not Luqman was a prophet, but some people believe him to be a prophet and thus write Alayhis salaam (A.S.) with his name. Luqman was described as a perceptive man, always watching the animals and plants of his surroundings, and he tried to understand the world based on what he saw. One day, whilst sleeping under a tree, an angel came to him and said that Allah wanted to bestow a gift upon Luqman: either wisdom or being king. Luqman chose wisdom, and when he woke from his slumber, he was aware that his senses and understanding had sharpened. He felt in complete harmony with nature and could understand the inner meaning of things, beyond their physical reality. Immediately he bowed down, thanked and praised Allah for this wonderful gift.

Freewater

Book Description

Winner of the John Newbery Medal Winner of the Coretta Scott King Author Award Award-winning author Amina Luqman-Dawson pens a lyrical, accessible historical middle-grade novel about two enslaved children’s escape from a plantation and the many ways they find freedom. After an entire young life of enslavement, twelve-year-old Homer escapes Southerland Plantation with his little sister Ada, leaving his beloved mother behind. Much as he adores her and fears for her life, Homer knows there’s no turning back, not with the overseer on their trail. Through tangled vines, secret doorways, and over a sky bridge, the two find a secret community called Freewater, deep in the recesses of the swamp. In this new, free society made up of escaped slaves and some born-free children, Homer cautiously embraces a set of spirited friends, almost forgetting where he came from. But when he learns of a threat that could destroy Freewater, he hatches a plan to return to Southerland plantation, overcome his own cautious nature, and free his mother from enslavement. Loosely based on a little-mined but important piece of history, this is an inspiring and deeply empowering story of survival, love, and courage.

Shut Down Kid

Book Description

This book heralds a new line in thinking why the illiteracy rate has been maintained at the same level for decades. It's easy to blame the child as if he were the problem, and not the failure of instruction. There is a basic foundation for teaching that has to be in place for learning to occur. For learning to occur one needs to master the first R – Reading without which the other two R’s (wRiting and aRithmetics) are difficult to attain. The bottom line is that illiteracy has remained the same throughout the years because of wrong teaching methods. Once a kid has already disengaged because of being confused, fun and encouragement and motivation will not work. This is why illiteracy level has not come down in more than 30 years. Educators have tried everything except tackling the root cause of why kids disengage from learning to read in the first place. This book tells exactly why kids shut down from learning to read. This book tells you how to prevent kids from disengaging from learning to read. When ideas from this book are implemented illiteracy will be eradicated.
