B-lifetime Measurements at CDF.

Book Description

The average b-hadron lifetime has been measured using a high statistics sample of B → J/?X decays recorded with the Collider Detector at Fermilab. The decay vertices of J/? →??− candidates have been reconstructed using information from a silicon vertex-detector. The measured B lifetime, which is the average over all b-hadrons produced in p{bar p} collisions at √s = 1.8 TeV, weighted by their branching ratios into J/? is:?B = 1.46 ± 0.06(stat.) ± 0.06(sys.)ps (preliminary); In addition we used the fully reconstructed final states B{sup ±} → J/?K{sup ±} and B° → J/?K°* to measure the exclusive lifetime of charged and neutral B-mesons. We measure:?{sub B}{sup ±} = 1.59 ± 0.27(stat.) ± 0.17(sys.) ps (preliminary);?{sub B}° = 1. 34 ± 0.31 (stat.) {plus_minus} 0.17 (sys.) ps (preliminary); From this we obtain the following result for the lifetime ratio:?{sub B}{sup {plus_minus}}/? {sub B}° = 1.19 {plus_minus} 0.35(stat.) {plus_minus} 0.12(sys.) (preliminary); This represents the first measurements of the b-lifetime at a hadron collider.

B Lifetimes at CDF.

Book Description

Measurements of the average b-hadron lifetime using inclusive B [yields] J/[psi]X events, the individual B[sub u] and B[sub d] lifetimes and their ratio using exclusive B [yields] [psi]K events, and the B[sub s] lifetime using semileptonic B[sub s] lifetime using semileptonic B[sub s] [yields] l[nu]D[sub 3]X events are presented. The results were obtained from a 21.3 pb[sup [minus]1] sample of [radical]s = 1.8 TeV [bar p]p collisions collected in 1992--93 at the Fermilab Tevatron collider and required the precise position measurements of the recently installed CDF silicon vertex detector.

International Europhysics Conference on High Energy Physics

Book Description

The 1997 International Europhysics Conference on High Energy Physics was held at the campus of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and at the Jerusalem Renaissance Hotel, from August 19th to August 25th, 1997. This was the first time that the European Physical Society had its High Energy Physics Conference outside the boundary of Europe. A total of 550 physicists participated in the conference with a total of 250 presentations in the parallel sessions and 26 presentations in the plenary sessions. The Board of the of the High Energy and Particle Physics division (HEPP) of the EPS acted as the Scientific Organizing Committee. The Board acknowl edges the help of the International Advisory Committee as well as that of the Local Organizing Committee. The conference was co-organized by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and by the Weizmann Institute of Science, with important help by physi cists from the Israeli Institute of Technology (Technion) and the Tel Aviv University.

Lepton and Photon Interactions at High Energies

Book Description

This volume contains contributions to the XXI International Symposium on Lepton and Photon Interactions at High Energies, held at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. It gives up-to-date reviews of all aspects of particle physics, written by leading practitioners in the field. The review nature of all the articles makes this volume more accessible to students and researchers in other fields of physics. In addition to new experimental data and advances in theory, the future directions and prospects for the field are covered. The proceedings have been selected for coverage in: ? Index to Scientific & Technical Proceedings? (ISTP? / ISI Proceedings)? Index to Scientific & Technical Proceedings (ISTP CDROM version / ISI Proceedings)? CC Proceedings ?
