Memorial Tributes to Daniel L. Harris, 1880

Book Description

Excerpt from Memorial Tributes to Daniel L. Harris, 1880: With Biography and Extracts From His Journal and Letters This book has been prepared and printed solely for private circulation, and to the many good friend of Mr. Harris who have tendered precious tributes to his memory, and have manifested so much sympathy and kindly interest, the family acknowledge their sincere gratitude, and present them this volume of facts, gathered largely from his journal and letters, which tell their own story. The steel engraved likeness is considered excellent. The accounts of the life of Mr. Harris, published in the newspapers at the time of his death, were, of necessity, hurriedly prepared, and contained a few minor errors of statement, some of which are printed in the Eulogies and Personal Tributes in this volume without change; but they have been corrected in the Biographical Sketch by giving the true story of his life. It was the good fortune of the Editor to have met Mr. Harris frequently during the last twenty years of his life, and he felt that he knew something of his character before entering upon the preparation of this work.
