Presents data on the income of households, families, and people in the U.S. for CY 1998 and compares them with data for 1997 &, in some cases, with data for 1989. Changes in income noted in this report are based on real income (after adjusting for inflation). This data was based on approximately 50,000 randomly sampled households nationwide. The official income estimates in this report are based solely on money income before taxes. A separate section of this report discusses the effect of taxes on selected non-cash benefits on household income using model-based approaches to estimating taxes and valuing benefits.
