PART ONE ---New York City Without a word, Nathan handed the cablegram to his son. Roy took it and walked away a few steps. He opened the envelope as he walked, dreading with every step, what he believed the cable would say; the Baron had died. The others watched quietly as he read, hardly breathing. The cable fell to the ground; Roys shoulders sagged, and he began to sob mightily. After a few minutes, he straightened his shoulders, shook himself like a wet dog, then turned to the others. All right gentlemen, I assume you all read what grandfather said; Tell Roy to stay the course, and that is exactly what were going to do. Michael, where do we go from here? Offhand, Roy, Id say Kentucky, but its your decision; except I dont think you ought to be the one to go. How about you, Uncle Nathan? I think youre right; Roy needs to stay right here and look after MacTavish Enterprises like hes supposed to. I had planned to go wherever we went, if Roy did, but since hell staying here, I reckon Ill go on to Virginia and rest a while. I guess that leaves you, Oliver. Uncle Robert felt I owed him something, Oliver said, if I intended to take my rightful place in the clan; so he asked me to be the head of this new MacTavish division in this country. Hed been told there was a lot of open land and few settlers out west, and thats where I should go. Also, Id be able to pay for land with gold without too many questions. I agreed with that, and said Id do it. David is all eager to go, so I guess thats what well do. PART TWO --- THE OLSENS It was late in the day, August Twenty-first, eighteen fifty-six, and a perfect evening for fishing. A nice cool breeze barely ruffled the leaves on the trees providing shade for a man sitting beneath them in a strange looking chair; ostensibly, trying to catch his supper. Oliver Olsen, once a sailor, now an adventurer; a banker; a farmer; a trader of livestock; a buyer of land; a builder; an entrepreneur extraordinaire; a man who wore many hats; was a man lost in retrospect. He found this happening more often lately, and if someone asked him why, would most likely answer, Im trying to figure out how it all came about. Suddenly, he was aware someone was jerking on his arm. He looked around and saw it was his two year old grandson, David Junior. His mother, Penny, was standing right behind the boy. Grandpa, Penny said. I dont see any fish; youve been sleeping again, havent you? I suppose you could say that, he replied, either that, or someones been standing beside me telling that same old story again. It dont get any better with the telling. Id sure like to hear something from David, wouldnt you? Its been three months since we heard from him and the boys.

While essentially bringing light to the theme of migration, the book targets a more contemporary audience: today’s adolescents and young adults. Relocation, especially amongst this age group, can be a big change, affecting both one’s mental and physical health. The book aims to offer support in terms of finding a sense of belonging, making friends and dealing with homesickness in a new environment amongst many more issues that migrant children seem to grapple with. Through interactions with candidates from all over the world, it can evidently be concluded that most migratory experiences are made better with some guidance and the knowledge that all struggles during this time are completely normal, justified and understandable. The book includes a few real-life stories from migrant teenagers who have moved and their advice and coping mechanisms to deal with moving away that is, often accompanied by several heartrending goodbyes and, most importantly, a loss of comfort. The book is, in its own special way, a little like a “How to”, aiming to offer some sort of support and reassurance that things in life fall into place eventually. Written in a very conversational tone by someone who has observed migratory experiences first-hand, the book hopes to spark discussion about the possibility of a creation of a new life away from home, whilst also acknowledging all the difficulty that comes with relocation.

Every Ending Has A New Beginning is a book of nine fiction short stories that were inspired by real life experiences. The book is filled with interesting, funny, shocking, chilling, touching, honest and wild stories. It will definitely ignite a familiarity to someone you know. It touches on all aspects of life-prayer, rape, child abuse, relationship drama, family drama, drugs, happiness, sadness, illness, encouragement and love. Every story shows some type of strength that these characters had to have in order to conquer their problems. The book also shows how people can get caught-up and postpone happiness and lose his or her way. Instead, they end up settling for less. It also shows how you can be in a rut, yet you can always pull yourself back up again. In addition, it shows 1) that sometimes we're just a victim or innocent bystander and unbeknownst to us trouble finds us wherever we go; 2) that we can be anything we want to be; 3) that life is what we make it; and 4) that we do have choices. Too often we make the wrong choices and no matter what Every Ending Has A New Beginning. It's up to us to change and grow. If there's no room for change, then there's no room for growth. You can expect to feel a lot of emotions. I basically stretched and twisted the truth to enhance your reading and entertainment pleasure, while making the best of my writing talent and creativity. Enjoy!

Diaspora, a movement of the people and cultures, has generated writers not just to shape new identities for themselves but for others too and writers like Bharati Mukherjee, Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni and Jhumpa Lahiri have not only explored the concept but have set trends to acknowledge and assimilate the changing perceptions. Staying away from their original homelands and sharing common experiences the immigrants have innumerable accounts to narrate and the writers have taken up the pen to articulate various occurrences through words. Based not on any theory or philosophy but just on the life experiences of immigrants, Diasporic literature has touched the hearts of the readers and there has been a poignant emotional impact.

A recurring and significant theme in ancient Greek literature is that of returns and returning, chiefly - but by no means only - of mythical Greek heroes from Troy. One main, and certainly the most 'marked', ancient Greek word for 'return' is nostos (plural nostoi), from which is derived the English 'nostalgia'. Nostos-related traditions were important ingredients of colonial foundation myths and the theme runs through both ancient Greek prose and poetry from Homer's Odyssey to Lykophron's Alexandra, also leaving traces in the historical record through the archaeological and epigraphical commemoration of nostoi, which played a central part in defining Greek ethnicity and crystallizing personal and communal identities. This volume offers a truly interdisciplinary exploration of the concept of nostos in ancient Greek culture, which draws on its contributors' expertise in ancient Greek (and Roman) history, literature, archaeology, and religion. The chapters examine both literary and material evidence in order to achieve a better understanding of the nature of Greek settlement in the Mediterranean zone, and of sometimes equivocal Greek and Roman perceptions of home, displacement, and returning. The special problems and vocabulary of exile are explored in the long Introduction, which offers an incisive yet accessible overview of the volume's key themes and sets its range of contributions clearly in context: while two chapters are concerned in different ways with emotions and personal identity, making use of the theoretical tool of place-attachment, another demonstrates that failed nostoi can be more interesting than successful examples. Evidential absence can be as important and illuminating as presence, and mythical women, underrepresented in this regard, feature extensively in several chapters, which open up a range of new perspectives on nostos.
