A lively early intervention reading scheme for struggling readers. Attractively illustrated with full colour artwork, the readers are fully supported by big books, workbooks, photocopiable copymasters, teacher notes and flashcards. The core remedial strategy is explicit phonics teaching to develop semantic, syntactic, graphophonic and bibliographic cues. A core vocabulary of high frequency words will be presented progressively. Jumpstart provides graded fiction, poetry and non-fiction readers plus support work for pupils aged 6-11 who are identified as struggling readers. It provides street-smart high-interest/low reading age books whose subject matter is skewed towards attracting boy readers. The programme is divided into three stages, comprising 18 core books each, which are subdivided into 3 sets.
