Proceedings of the Eleventh International Symposium Capture Gamma-Ray Spectroscopy and Related Topics

Book Description

This volume is a collection of invited talks, oral contributions and poster contributions devoted to advances in gamma-ray spectroscopy of various capture reactions. In agreement with the trend of previous meetings in the series, the symposium paid special attention to theoretical and experimental studies of nuclear structure at low energies and to nuclear astrophysics. Among the other topics covered are: statistical properties of nuclei and other quantum many-body systems, fundamental physics, nuclear data, practical application of capture reactions, and new techniques and facilities for capture gamma-ray spectroscopy.

Reactor Dosimetry In The 21st Century - Proceedings Of The 11th International Symposium On Reactor Dosimetry

Book Description

This book presents the state of the art in reactor dosimetry as applied to nuclear power plants and to high performance research reactors, accelerator-driven systems and spallation sources. The reader will also find the latest advances in computer code development for radiation transport and shielding. In addition, the book focuses on radiation measurement techniques.

Capture Gamma-Ray Spectroscopy and Related Topics

Book Description

The International Conferences on Capture Gamma-Ray Spectroscopy and Related Topics are the primary interdisciplinary low energy physics conference held in the world. This meeting alternates every three years between Europe and the U.S.A, and topics on the applications of nuclear physics are discussed. Included are nuclear astrophysics as well as nuclear energy and other potential uses for safeguards of nuclear weapons and homeland security.

The Beauty of Mathematics in Science

Book Description

This book is a tribute to the life and work of J Q Chen. The contributions of Chen to nuclear and molecular physics are discussed vis-a-vis present developments in these fields. Among other subjects, the present status of microscopic theories of the interacting boson model in nuclear physics and the theory of symmetry adaptation of molecular vibrations in molecular physics are reviewed. The latter theory is particularly useful for large molecular species such as fullerenes, where icosahedral symmetry plays a fundamental role. Contents: A Conceptual Review of the New Approach to Group Representation Theory (F Wang, Nanjing University, China); The Interacting Boson Model (P Van Isacker, GANIL, France); Structure of Nuclei Near the First Order Spherical-Deformed Phase Transition in the Interacting Boson Model (N V Zamfir, G E, Fernandes & R F Casten, Yale University, USA); Dynamical Symmetry Approach to Collective Motions in Many-Body Systems (C-L Wu, National Center for Theoretical Sciences, Taiwan); Fermion Dynamical Symmetries and High Temperature Superconductors (M Guidry, University of Tennessee, USA); Quantum Mechanics on a Sphere (J N Ginocchio, Los Alamos National Laboratory, USA); The Method of Symmetrized Bosons (F Iachello, Yale University, Connecticut); The Perturbed Dirac-Coulomb Problem via SO(2,1) Algebra. A Dilemma! (K T Hecht, University of Michigan, USA); Continuous Groups and Molecular Electronic Structure (J Paldus & X-Z Li); and other papers. Readership: Researchers in nuclear, molecular and mathematical physics."

Handbook of Prompt Gamma Activation Analysis

Book Description

Prompt gamma activation analysis (PGAA) is a unique, non-destructive nuclear analytical method with multi-element capabilities. It is most effective if intense neutron beams (especially cold beams) of nuclear reactors are used to induce the prompt gamma radiation. Based largely on the authors' pioneering research in cold neutron PGAA, the handbook describes the methodology in self-contained manner and reviews recent applications. The library of prompt gamma ray data and spectra for all natural elements is a unique aid to the practitioner. The level is understandable by a broad audience, which facilitates teaching and training. The Handbook of Prompt Gamma Activation Analysis is a comprehensive handbook written for those practising the method, wanting to implement it at a reactor facility, or just looking for a powerful non-destructive method of element analysis. The book is also useful for nuclear physics, chemistry and engineering scientists, scholars and graduate students interested in neutron-induced gamma ray spectroscopy and nuclear analytical methods.
