Quest for Discovery

Book Description

From the moment of the original sin, our eyes have been veiled from seeing God while in our mortal forms. Many scientists denounce the existence of God because of this inability to see him. Without that proof, some think we must rely on faith alone. Philosophy is a tool for discovering the truth, and with it we can go beyond faith. Author Liz Barnor spent many years wishing to deepen her personal relationship with God. She wanted her own vision or testimony that could serve as the foundation for her faith. But her knowledge of God's existence was solidified by tracing a lineage back to the Holy Trinity, to Jesus and his father. Jesus came to the Earth in human form to discover how humanity had become so steeped in sin. He had made a pact with his father to spill his own blood to ensure our redemption. Jesus's time on Earth and his return to the heavens prove without a doubt that God is real. In this groundbreaking book, the full biblical argument is revealed. By using the gifts he has given us-freedom of will and intellectual reasoning-we can understand his existence even without seeing him.

Quest for Eternal Sunshine

Book Description

Quest for Eternal Sunshine chronicles the triumphant, true story of Mendek Rubin, a brilliant inventor who overcame both the trauma of the Holocaust and decades of unrelenting depression to live a life of deep peace and boundless joy. Born into a Hassidic Jewish family in Poland in 1924, Mendek grew up surrounded by extreme anti-Semitism. Armed with an ingenious mind, he survived three horrific years in Nazi slave-labor concentration camps while virtually his entire family was murdered in Auschwitz. After arriving in America in 1946—despite having no money or professional skills—his inventions helped revolutionize both the jewelry and packaged-salad industries. Remarkably, Mendek also applied his ingenuity to his own psyche, developing innovative ways to heal his heart and end his emotional suffering. After Mendek died in 2012, his daughter, Myra Goodman, found an unfinished manuscript in which he’d revealed the intimate details of his healing journey. Quest for Eternal Sunshine—the extraordinary result of a posthumous father-daughter collaboration—tells Mendek’s whole story and is filled with eye-opening revelations, effective self-healing techniques, and profound wisdom that have the power to transform the way we live our lives. An inspirational biography of a Holocaust survivor overcoming depression and PTSD. An essential new addition to Jewish Holocaust history.

Quest to Learn

Book Description

The design for Quest to Learn, an innovative school in New York City that offers a “game-like” approach to learning. Quest to Learn, an innovative school for grades 6 to 12 in New York City, grew out of the idea that gaming and game design offer a promising new paradigm for curriculum and learning. The designers of Quest to Learn developed an approach to learning that draws from what games do best: drop kids into inquiry-based, complex problem spaces that are built to help players understand how they are doing, what they need to work on, and where to go next. Content is not treated as dry information but as a living resource; students are encouraged to interact with the larger world in ways that feel relevant, exciting, and empowering. Quest to Learn opened in the fall of 2009 with 76 sixth graders. In their first semester, these students learned—among other things—to convert fractions into decimals in order to break a piece of code found in a library book; to use atlases and read maps to create a location guide for a reality television series; and to create video tutorials for a hapless group of fictional inventors. This research and development document outlines the learning framework for the school, making the original design available to others in the field. Elements in development include a detailed curriculum map, a budget, and samples of student and teacher handbooks.

Empty Space and Points of Light

Book Description

The book presents a study of key issues in Winerson's oeurve. The selected works include Oranges are not the Only Fruit, art & Lies, The PowerBook, and Written on the Body, works that are all concerned with the self in relation to the concepts of time, love gender, and the body. Drawing on Jungian ideas of quest and individual and Queer theory, Marie Herholdt Jorgensen shows how these concepts in the works of winterson are grounded in the prospect of numerous potential realities in which several narrations of the self are made possible. Winterson disrupts the notion of one objective reality and instead centers on the individual as the narrator of various versions of reality and the self. The book contains summaries of all of Winterson's novels, making the book accessible for readers previously unfamiliar with jeanette winterson.
