Surprise Attack

Book Description

Ephraim Kam observes surprise attack through the eyes of its victim in order to understand the causes of the victim's failure to anticipate the coming of war. Emphasing the psychological aspect of warfare, Kam traces the behavior of the victim at various functional levels and from several points of view in order to examine the difficulties and mistakes that permit a nation to be taken by surprise. He argues that anticipation and prediction of a coming war are more complicated than any other issue of strategic estimation, involving such interdependent factors as analytical contradictions, judgemental biases, organizational obstacles, and political as well as military constraints. Surprise Attack: The Victim's Perspective offers implications based on the intelligence perspective, providing both historical background and scientific analysis that draws from the author's vast experience. The book is of utmost value to all those engaged in intelligence work, and to those whose operational or political responsibility brings them in touch with intelligence assessments and the need to authenticate and then adopt them or discount them. Similarly, the book will interest any reader intrigued by decision-making processes that influence individuals and nations at war, and sometimes even shape national destiny. --Ehud Barak, Former Prime Minister of Israel

An Overwhelming Surprise

Book Description

As a people awaiting the return of our Savior, we are forever looking for signs of the closing events, rightly so, because the Scriptures say that we will be able to "see the day approaching." Our anticipation has - for the most part - been in vain. Time and again we have had our hopes dashed to pieces. A time will come when our excitement will be justified. Dawning of the Day is a revelation of major current events that, when viewed in their entirety, paint a picture of what could be Satan's last effort to deceive the people of God, and bring in the long expected global Sabbath laws. An "overwhelming surprise," a "snare," these are the words inspired by God to describe how the final crisis will be seen by "all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth." Luke 21:35 The surprise begins now, as you see for the first time how Satan has been working undercover to arrange things to accomplish his work. The ground work is in place, the support is there, very little remains before the trap is sprung on an unprepared church, and unsuspecting world.

The Big Surprise

Book Description

The Big Surprise is a story based on true events that took place on our dairy farm as we were growing up. The first day Midnight arrived at our farm, he and Doug were inseparable. If Doug was anywhere outside, Midnight was with him. If Midnight sensed a threat, he was by Doug's side, rumbling deep in his throat. At the time, the loss of Midnight was a horrible thing to us, but we grew from it. As farm kids, loss of life was something we had to deal with regularly because we had lots of animals. Therefore, I think farm kids get prepared for loss and real-life experiences pretty young. Doug was no exception. Doug actually had very bad luck with pets, but he never gave up. He learned his capacity to love was great, and his heart was meant for many. It also helped me to realize what great parents we had to help us through these events. If we take the chance to love, we are going to experience loss--they go hand in hand.
