These ongoing close contacts, plus those of his own seven children and their spouses have kept him in close touch with the minds of young folk and have enabled him to stay young in heart himself. He holds five degrees including a doctorate in philosophy. After teaching in a high school, he lectured in the College of Education for Further Training, in Pretoria, where teachers studied for further degrees or diplomas. On his retirement, he was Associate Head of the Department of Biblical Studies.
