Purification of Laboratory Chemicals

Book Description

A best seller since 1966, Purification of Laboratory Chemicals keeps engineers, scientists, chemists, biochemists and students up to date with the purification of the chemical reagents with which they work, the processes for their purification, and guides readers on critical safety and hazards for the safe handling of chemicals and processes. The Seventh Edition is fully updated and provides expanded coverage of the latest commercially available chemical products and processing techniques, safety and hazards: over 200 pages of coverage of new commercially available chemicals since the previous edition. The only comprehensive chemical purification reference, a market leader since 1966, Amarego delivers essential information for research and industrial chemists, pharmacists and engineers: '... (it) will be the most commonly used reference book in any chemical or biochemical laboratory' (MDPI Journal) An essential lab practice and proceedures manual. Improves efficiency, results and safety by providing critical information for day-to-day lab and processing work. Improved, clear organization and new indexing delivers accurate, reliable information on processes and techniques of purification along with detailed physical properties The Sixth Edition has been reorganised and is fully indexed by CAS Registry Numbers; compounds are now grouped to make navigation easier; literature references for all substances and techniques have been added; ambiguous alternate names and cross references removed; new chemical products and processing techniques are covered; hazards and safety remain central to the book

Culture of Epithelial Cells

Book Description

"...a wonderful compendium of current in vitro approaches that will be a useful resource to those just starting to work with an epithelial cell system as well as those that have been working with them for years and years." --Pharmaceutical Research This completely revised and expanded new edition provides detailed descriptions of fundamental and practical aspects relating to the in vitro cultivation of disparate types of epithelia. In recent years, the use of epithelial cell culture in cell biology and tissue engineering has increased dramatically. This revision reflects those advances by including new chapters on the culture of animal and human hepatocytes, kidney epithelium, and bladder epithelium. Each chapter provides an introductory review of the principles and advantages of the particular method, followed by detailed protocols, practical tips, alternate methods, and a useful list of materials and suppliers.

Human Stem Cell Manual

Book Description

This manual is a comprehensive compilation of "methods that work" for deriving, characterizing, and differentiating hPSCs, written by the researchers who developed and tested the methods and use them every day in their laboratories. The manual is much more than a collection of recipes; it is intended to spark the interest of scientists in areas of stem cell biology that they may not have considered to be important to their work. The second edition of the Human Stem Cell Manual is an extraordinary laboratory guide for both experienced stem cell researchers and those just beginning to use stem cells in their work. - Offers a comprehensive guide for medical and biology researchers who want to use stem cells for basic research, disease modeling, drug development, and cell therapy applications - Provides a cohesive global view of the current state of stem cell research, with chapters written by pioneering stem cell researchers in Asia, Europe, and North America - Includes new chapters devoted to recently developed methods, such as iPSC technology, written by the scientists who made these breakthroughs

Laboratory Techniques in Cellular and Molecular Medicine

Book Description

The methodological book ""Laboratory techniques in cellular and molecular medicine"" is intended for students of bachelor, master, and doctoral study programmes at faculties of science, medicine, and veterinary medicine, as well as for laboratory technicians interested in methodological approaches of contemporary cellular and molecular medicine. The book does not aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of the art in cellular and molecular medicine, that would be a superhuman task. The aim of the 56-member author team is to provide readers with an overview of the methods established and tested at the Institute of Molecular and Translational Medicine of the Faculty of Medicine of Palacký University Olomouc – to describe the methodological principles and their practical application. It focuses both on basic methods, whose principles are used by the most modern methods, and on special methods, reflecting the laboratory experience and specialisation of individual authors. The 52 chapters describe the work with cells and microorganisms, bioengineering manipulations of nucleic acids, the search for biomarkers, detection at the level of DNA, RNA, protein, organelle, and whole cell, and the use of fluorescent and radioactive labeling. To aid comprehension, the description of the methods is illustrated by figures and diagrams. Each chapter is followed by troubleshooting tips. The book promotes the best laboratory practice to increase the reproducibility of results in biomedicine.

Prospects and Applications for Plant-Associated Microbes, A laboratory manual

Book Description

Research on the microbial colonization of the aerial and subterranean tissues of plants has shown an extensive scale of interactions between the hosts and a range of microbes, including bacteria and fungi. Intercellular spaces, vascular systems and even single cells can be inhabited by these endophytic microbes. Of the bacterial endophytes, only a small percentage is harmful to the plant; most are neutral, opportunistic or beneficial. These plant-based bacteria can have various important functions throughout the life cycle of the plant; some promote plant growth and development, others protect the plant from diseases. This ability to be able to protect plants from diseases has catalyzed numerous laboratories to search for new bacteria that could be utilized instead of the traditional plant-protective agents. Because two or more interacting organisms are involved, research and the eventual application of suitable bio-controlling microbes are challenging and often require specific skills and equipment. The purpose of this book is to provide a comprehensive review for those who are interested in the research and biotechnological applications of plant-associated bacteria. It also provides a compilation of current work conducted on plant-bacteria interactions.
