Study of the B- --] J/psi K- Pi+ Pi- Decay and Measurement of the B- --] X(3872) K- Branching Fraction

Book Description

The authors study the decay B− → J/?K−??− using 117 million B{bar B} events collected at the?(4S) resonance with the BaBar detector at the PEP-II e+e− asymmetric-energy storage ring. They measure the branching fractions?(B− → J/?K−?+?−) = (116 ± 7(stat.) ± 9(syst.)) x 10−5 and?(B− → X(3872)K−) x?(X(3872) → J/??+?−) = (1.28 ± 0.41) x 10−5 and find the mass of the X(3872) to be 3873.4 ± 1.4MeV/c2. They search for the h{sub c} narrow state in the decay B− → h{sub c} K−, h{sub c} → J/??+?− and for the decay B− → J/?D°?−, with D° → K−?+. They set the 90% C.L. limits?(B− → h{sub c}K−) x?(h{sub c} → J/??+?−)

Measurement of CP Parameters in B- --] D(pi+pi-pi0)K- and Study of the X(3872) in B --] J/psi Pi+ Pi- K with the BaBar Detector

Book Description

This dissertation presents two analyses performed on data collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II e{sup +}e{sup -} asymmetric-energy B Factory. First, a Dalitz analysis is shown that performs the first measurement of CP violation parameters in the decay B{sup -} {yields} D{sub {pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -}{pi}{sup 0}}K{sup -} using the decay rate asymmetry and D{sup 0} - {bar D}{sup 0} interference. The results can be used to further constrain the value of the CKM angle {gamma}. The second analysis studies the properties of the X(3872) in neutral and charged B {yields} J/{psi}{pi}{sup +}{pi}{sup -}K decays. Measurements of the branching ratio and mass are presented as well as the search for additional resonances at higher masses.

A Study of B+/- --] J/psi Pi+/- and B+/- --] J/psi K+/- Decays

Book Description

We have studied the B{sup ±} → J/[psi][pi]{sup ±} and B{sup ±} → J/[psi] K{sup ±} decays using a 20.7 fb−1 data set collected with the BABAR detector. We observe a signal of 51 ± 10 B{sup ±} → J/[psi][pi]{sup ±} events and determine the ratio [Beta](B{sup {+-}} → J/[psi][pi]{sup {+-}})/[Beta](B{sup {+-}} → J/[psi] K{sup {+-}}) to be [3.91 {+-} 0.78(stat.) {+-} 0.19(syst.)]%. The CP-violating charge asymmetries for the B{sup {+-}} → J/[psi] [pi]{sup {+-}} and B{sup {+-}} → J/[psi] K{sup {+-}} decays are determined to be [Alpha]{sub {pi}} = 0.01 {+-} 0.22(stat.) {+-} 0.01(syst.) and [Alpha]{sub K} = 0.003 {+-} 0.030(stat.) {+-} 0.004(syst.).

Study of B{sup {+-}} 2!J/[psi] [pi]{sup {+-}} and B{sup {+-}} 2!J/[psi] K{sup {+-}} Decays

Book Description

The authors study B{sup ±} → J/[psi] [pi]{sup ±} and B{sup ±} → J/[psi] K{sup ±} decays in a sample of about 89 million B{bar B} pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric B-factory at SLAC. They observe a signal of 244 ± 20 B{sup ±} → J/[psi] [pi]{sup ±} events and determine the ratio [Beta](B{sup {+-}} → J/[psi] [pi]{sup {+-}})/[Beta](B{sup {+-}} → J/[psi] K{sup {+-}}) to be [5.37 {+-} 0.45(stat.) {+-} 0.11(syst.)]%. The charge asymmetries for the B{sup {+-}} → J/[psi] [pi]{sup {+-}} and B{sup {+-}} → J/[psi] K{sup {+-}} decays are determined to be [Alpha]{sub {pi}} = 0.123 {+-} 0.085(stat.) {+-} 0.004(syst.) and [Alpha]{sub K} = 0.030 {+-} 0.015(stat.) {+-} 0.006(syst.), respectively.

Measurement of the $B^+\rightarrow P \bar{p} K^{+}$ Branching Fraction and Study of the Decay Dynamics

Book Description

With a sample of 232 x 106 [Upsilon](4S) 2!B{bar B} events collected with the BABAR detector, we study the decay B 2!p{bar p}K excluding charmonium decays to p{bar p}. We measure a branching fraction [Beta](B+ 2!p{bar p}K+) = (6.7 ± 0.5 ± 0.4) x 10−6. An enhancement at low p{bar p} mass is observed and the Dalitz plot asymmetry suggests dominance of the penguin amplitude in this B decay. We search for a pentaquark candidate [Theta]*{sup ++} decaying into pK+ in the mass range 1.43 to 2.00 GeV/c2 and set limits on [Beta](B+ 2![Theta]*{sup ++} {bar p}) x [Beta]([Theta]*{sup ++} 2!pK+) at the 10−7 level.

Measurements of the Branching Fractions of Charged B Decays to K+-pi-+pi+- Final States

Book Description

The authors present results of searches for B-meson decays to K[sup+][pi][sup -][pi][sup+] with the BABAR detector. With a data sample of 61.6 million B[bar B] pairs, they measure the branching fractions and 90% confidence-level upper limits averaged over charge-conjugate states (the first error is statistical and the second is systematic):[Beta](B[sup+][yields] K*[sup 0](892)[pi][sup+])= (15.5[+-] 1.8[sub -4.0][sup+1.5]) x 10[sup -6], [Beta](B[sup+][yields] f[sub 0](980)K[sup+], f[sub 0][yields][pi][sup+][pi][sup -])= (9.2[+-] 1.2[sub -2.6][sup+2.1]) x 10[sup -6], [Beta](B[sup+][yields][bar D][sup 0][yields] K[sup+][pi][sup -])= (184.6[+-] 3.2[+-] 9.7) x 10[sup -6], [Beta](B[sup+][yields][rho][sup 0](770)K[sup+])

Improved Measurements of the Branching Fractions for B0 Into Pi+pi- and B0 Into K+pi-, and a Search for B0 Into K+K-

Book Description

The authors present measurements of the branching fractions for the charmless two-body decays B° →??− and B° → K+?−, and a search for the decay B° → K+K−. They include the effects of final-state radiation from the daughter mesons for the first time, and quote branching fractions for the inclusive processes B° → h+h'−n?, where h and h' are pion or kaons. The maximum value of the sum of the energies of the n undetected photons, E{sub {gamma}}{sup max}, is mode-dependent. Using a data sample of approximately 227 million?(4S) → B{bar B} decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e+e− collider at SLAC.

An Analysis of the K+[pi]+[pi]− Final State in B+ [right Arrow] J/[psi] K+[pi]+[pi]− and B+ [right Arrow] [psi]ʹ K+[pi]+[pi]−

Book Description

Inclusive branching ratios have been measured for the decays B+ [right arrow] J/psi K+pi+pi− and B+ [right arrow] psiʹ K+pi+pi− using 492 fb−1 of data collected at the [Upsilon](4S) resonance by the Belle detector at KEKB. Three-dimensional amplitude analyses have been performed to study the resonant structure of the K+pi+pi− final state in these decay modes.
