President Theodore Roosevelt once said, "Far and away the best prize that life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing." This quote is not only the source from which the title was borne, but also the philosophical approach toward TBI rehabilitation embraced by the 26 rehabilitation experts who wrote Work Worth Doing: Advances in Brain Injury Rehabilitation. This important, and possibly controversial, book of issues and methods addresses the full spectrum of vocational rehabilitation activities. Independent living, treatment generalization, criteria for evaluating TBI rehabilitation facilities, family involvement issues, and an entirely new perspective on the TBI rehabilitation industry are discussed.

Ecological validity, the functional and predictive relationship between a patient's performance on a set of neuropsychological tests and their behavior in a variety of real-world settings, is emerging as a powerful tool. Since neuropsychological data were not designed to be ecologically valid, attempts to use the data in such a manner have been filled with pitfalls. The authors present a strong argument for reevaluating existing tests and/or developing new measurements. Special attention is given to specific functions such as the cognitive constructs of attention, perception, working memory, language, and executive function. Additional consideration is given to the assessment of special populations: children, minorities, substance abusers, elderly, and emotionally disturbed neurological populations. One area in which neuropsychology can lend tremendous assistance is in predicting a client's ability to resume activities of daily living, but more important, when a client can return to work. Ecological Validity of Neuropsychological Testing covers this issue extensively and details the role of vocational rehabilitation and the lack of exposure many within neuropsychology have to these specific needs of their clients.

"Selecting novels representative of distinct phases in Muriel Spark's career, Rodney Stenning Edgecombe explores their themes, style, and structure in a detailed way for the first time. Edgecombe's approach brings to life the delicate nuances, rich allusions, and complicated ironies of Spark's fiction. His careful reading of the novels makes this a penetrating assessment of an important writer."--Publishers website.

A guide to conducting Collaborative/Therapeutic Assessment to promote client growth Mental health professionals are increasingly enthusiastic about and ready to use psychological test data, research, and theory in life-relevant ways to improve diagnosis, client care, and treatment outcomes. With Collaborative/Therapeutic Assessment (C/TA), clients participate actively with the assessor in exploring how their test scores and patterns reflect who they are in their daily lives and how they can learn to help themselves cope with life's challenges. Using a case study approach to demonstrate how to apply C/TA in practice, Collaborative/Therapeutic Assessment provides practitioners with a variety of flexible and adaptable case examples featuring adults, children, adolescents, couples, and families from different backgrounds in need of treatment for assorted concerns. Designed for both experienced and novice clinicians, the book begins with a brief history of C/TA, and provides clear definitions of the distinctions among many common approaches. It uniquely presents: Eighteen diverse C/TA assessments covering: depression, multiple suicide attempts, severe abuse, dissociation, an adolescent psychiatric ward, custody evaluation, a couple in crisis, and collaborative neuropsychology Guidance on how both client and clinician can agree on the best course of action through joint exploration of assessment procedures, results, and implications Closely related approaches to psychological testing, including Individualized Assessment, Collaborative Assessment, Therapeutic Model of Assessment, Collaborative/Therapeutic Neuropsychological Assessment, and Rorschach-based psychotherapy Clearly labeled Teaching Points in each chapter Collaborative/Therapeutic Assessment provides psychologists in all areas of assessment, and at all levels of experience, with powerful C/TA examples that can dramatically illuminate and improve clients' lives.

Part I describes the theoretical research base and major tenets of the ecological perspective and its applications to counseling practice. In Part II, experts who have used the ecological perspective in their work discuss its usefulness in various applications, including counseling diverse clients with specific life challenges; assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning; and in schools, substance abuse programs, faith-based communities, and counselor training programs. *Requests for digital versions from ACA can be found on www.wiley.com. *To purchase print copies, please visit the ACA website *Reproduction requests for material from books published by ACA should be directed to [email protected].
