The Race to Salvation

Book Description

The Race to Salvation is a book written for Christians to aid them in the spiritual race that God sets before them. Every person that knows Jesus as Savior, has a role to fill in the Kingdom of Heaven.1 Corinthians 9:24-27 [NASB]24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. 25And everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 26Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air; 27but I buffet my body and make it my slave, lest possibly, after I have preached to others, I myself should be disqualified. As a child of the Kingdom of Heaven, you need to understand and accept that you are in a spiritual race. The outcome of this race determines how you will live out eternity in Heaven. Your role in the hierarchy of the Kingdom is determined by the priority you put on the spiritual race before you in this present age.Entering this race means repenting and accepting Jesus Christ. You will make the decision to either repent, or reject repentance and God with it. Your decision rests on two key factors. First, do you want a relationship with God? Second, do you have enough faith in Him to repent? If you choose to repent, there is a race to run and succeed in! As the Apostle Paul states, there is only one winner in a race, and everyone finishes in a different position. As Paul learns from Jesus, everyone running this spiritual race will fill a unique role in the Kingdom of Heaven. Matthew 20:20-23 [NASB] 20 Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee came to Him with her sons, bowing down, and making a request of Him. 21And He said to her, "What do you wish?" She said to Him, "Command that in Your kingdom these two sons of mine may sit, one on Your right and one on Your left." 22But Jesus answered and said, "You do not know what you are asking for. Are you able to drink the cup that I am about to drink?" They said to Him, "We are able." 23He said to them, "My cup you shall drink; but to sit on My right and on My left, this is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by My Father."There is indeed a hierarchy in the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus makes this fact clear to us through His teaching. The mother of James and John (the sons of Zebedee) comes to Jesus and asks that her sons sit, one on His right and one on His left. To sit at the right hand of Jesus is the greatest position in the Kingdom of Heaven relative to Him. To sit on His left is the second greatest.John's mother is asking that Jesus give her sons the two highest positions in The Kingdom of Heaven! In response, Jesus does not dispute this notion of this ranking. He confirms it!Matthew 20:23 [NASB] 23He said to them, "My cup you shall drink; but to sit on My right and on My left, this is not Mine to give, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared by My Father."The Apostle Paul understands that he is in this race for position, and he runs to win. He runs the race, not without aim, but rather with knowledge and discipline. The first step to success is accepting that you are actually in a race. To advance, you must take proper aim. You must learn to be disciplined, and you must acquire the necessary skills and faith to be competitive. There is a role waiting for you in the Kingdom of Heaven. This book is written to equip you with the tools and teaching required to successfully run the spiritual race before you. How you run this race is your choice.

Divided by Faith

Book Description

Through a nationwide survey, the authors of this study conclude that US Evangelicals may actually be preserving the racial chasm, not through active racism, but because their theology hinders their ability to recognise systematic injustice.

Run to Win

Book Description

“I am focusing all my energies on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I strain to reach the end of the race and receive the prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” —The apostle Paul No one enters a race and then wanders off to play a game of checkers or look for four-leaf clovers. They have a word for that kind of person: loser. If you want to cross life’s finish line as a winner, you need to focus your energies and keep your eyes on the prize. This is a race you must win! And with God’s help, it’s a race you can win with flying colors. Drawing from the pages of the Bible, Pastor Greg Laurie presents stories of real people who stumbled and fell right out of the race—and others who picked themselves up, got back on the track, and ran straight for the goal . . . and the greatest Prize of all.

Run to Win the Prize

Book Description

Scripture's commands to persevere, and warnings of the consequences if we fail, have been met with apathy by some, and led others to doubt the state of their salvation. The fearful and eternal nature of these issues warrants careful examination of what the Bible says about perseverance. Thomas Schreiner once again tackles this difficult topic in Run to Win the Prize. Clarifying misunderstandings stemming from his more detailed treatment in The Race Set Before Us (IVP 2001), Schreiner draws together an illuminating overview of biblical teaching on the doctrine of perseverance. Schreiner details how God directs the collective warnings and exhortations of Scripture toward believers as a means of preservation. We are to think of the call to persevere in light of the initial call to faith, both agents by which God leads us to final salvation. Those looking for a general treatment of the doctrine of perseverance will profit from the challenges and assurances in Run to Win the Prize.

Can "White" People Be Saved?

Book Description

White narmativity as a way of being in the world has been parasitically joined to Christianity, and this is the ground of many of our problems today. Written by a world-class roster of scholars, this volume develops language to describe the current realities of race and racism, challenging evangelical Christianity to think more critically and constructively about race, ethnicity, migration, and mission in relation to white supremacy.

The Race Set Before Us

Book Description

In this exploration of the biblical theology of perseverance and assurance, Thomas R. Schreiner and Ardel B. Caneday weigh all of the relevant New Testament texts and provide a foundational study that offers a clear Reformed perspective on salvation.
