Theoretical Computer Science - Proceedings Of The 6th Italian Conference

Book Description

The Italian Conference on Theoretical Computer Science (ICTCS '98) is the annual conference of the Italian Chapter of the European Association for Theoretical Computer Science. The Conference aims at enabling computer scientists, especially young researchers to enter the community and to exchange theoretical ideas and results, as well as theoretical based practical experiences and tools in computer science. This volume contains 32 papers selected out of 50 submissions. The main topics include computability, automata, formal languages, term rewriting, analysis and design of algorithms, computational geometry, computational complexity, symbolic and algebraic computation, cryptography and security, data types and data structures, semantics of programming languages, program specification and verification, foundations of logic programming, parallel and distributed computation, and theory of concurrency. The volume provides an up-to-date view of the status of several relevant topics in theoretical computer science and suggests directions for future research. It constitutes a valuable working tool for researchers and graduate students.

Theoretical Computer Science - Proceedings Of The 4th Italian Conference

Book Description

This volume is an up-to-date record of Italian research on theoretical computer science. The main topics featured are: algorithms and complexity, automata and formal languages, concurrency, databases, logic, functional and object-oriented programming, parallel algorithms and architectures, semantics of programming languages, rewriting systems, and others.

The Parametric Lambda Calculus

Book Description

The book contains a completely new presentation of classical results in the field of Lambda Calculus, together with new results. The text is unique in that it presents a new calculus (Parametric Lambda Calculus) which can be instantiated to obtain already known lambda-calculi. Some properties, which in the literature have been proved separately for different calculi, can be proved once for the Parametric one. The lambda calculi are presented from a Computer Science point of view, with a particular emphasis on their semantics, both operational and denotational.

Foundations of Software Technology and Theoretical Computer Science

Book Description

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 19th Conference on Foundations of Software Technology and Theoretical Computer Science, FSTTCS'99, held in Chennai, India, in December 1999. The 30 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 84 submissions. Also included are six invited contributions. The papers presented address all current issues in theoretical computer science and programming theory.

The Book Of Traces

Book Description

The theory of traces employs techniques and tackles problems from quite diverse areas which include formal language theory, combinatorics, graph theory, algebra, logic, and the theory of concurrent systems. In all these areas the theory of traces has led to interesting problems and significant results. It has made an especially big impact in formal language theory and the theory of concurrent systems. In both these disciplines it is a well-recognized and dynamic research area. Within formal language theory it yields the theory of partially commutative monoids, and provides an important connection between languages and graphs. Within the theory of concurrent systems it provides an important formal framework for the analysis and synthesis of concurrent systems. This monograph covers all important research lines of the theory of traces; each chapter is devoted to one research line and is written by leading experts. The book is organized in such a way that each chapter can be read independently — and hence it is very suitable for advanced courses or seminars on formal language theory, the theory of concurrent systems, the theory of semigroups, and combinatorics. An extensive bibliography is included. At present, there is no other book of this type on trace theory.
