The results of an experimental study of zone refining of the binary system triphenyl antimony-biphenyl are presented. The isotope Sb124, which is a strong gamma emitter, was employed as a tracer; this allowed a rapid in situ nondestructive analysis, closely spaced experimental points, and the opportunity to study distribution as a function of varying experimental conditions. With the aid of computers (IBM 7090 and IBM 7044) apparent (distribution coefficients) were calculated and the experimental data compared with those predicted from various mathematical models. (Author).

An experimental study on the zone refining of the binary system triphenyl antimony-benzoic acid is described. The isotope Sb124, which is a strong gamma emitter, was employed as a tracer; this allowed a rapid in situ nondestructive analysis, closely spaced experimental points, and the opportunity to study distribution as a function of varying experimental conditions. With the aid of computers (IBM 7090 and IBM 7044) apparent k's were calculated and the experimental data compared with those predicted from various mathematical models. (Author).

A surface wave antenna which has six parameters is discussed. The formulas developed permit a somewhat independent control of the phase and amplitude distribution along surface wave and leaky wave antennas. This design lends itself more readily to the fabrication of non endfire surface wave antennas that were previously designed for the same purpose. Finally it is noted that the formulas developed can be used to design a large number of well known wave guides and surface wave transmission lines. (Author).

Very narrow-band quenched filters used for studying VLF radio signals differ from conventional narrow-band circuits in that both signal and atmospheric noise impulses cause only brief quasi-sinusoidal outputs instead of a prolonged ringing. The random overlapping of these short noise and signal bursts can cause errors in phase measurements. It is shown that the distribution of phase errors can be calculated from the amplitude distribution of the output noise envelope. The properties of the phase distribution are discussed in detail, the computation required in the general case is illustrated by means of a numerical example. A simple 'time-sequential' method for experimentally obtaining typical amplitude distributions is suggested. (Author).
