Towards a Better Understanding of Metonymy

Book Description

The general aim of this book is to contribute to a better understanding of metonymy, using the theoretical framework of cognitive linguistics. The book argues for a conceptual rather than purely linguistic basis for metonymy and explores distinctions between metonymy and other figurative language.

A Better Understanding (Vol. 1)

Book Description

SUMMARY OF WRITINGS All writings herein are resulting from an extensive search of the entire bible to determine if all things being taught about the Christian belief are factual. Along with considering those things being taught I have also considered the Bible is not in good order as far as prophesies are concerned. Many things God gave his writers of the scriptures were not of benefit for them at that time, but were intended for those living in the end times. In order to correctly determine the destination of the inhabitants of the earth as God has planned, I know it to be a fact that every prophesy has a fulfillment, and presented in these writings is what I have found that I believe to be those fulfillments. Many things that are found in the Old Testament are written as if they had already occurred, so this must be considered when reading those scriptures of prophesy. This is just another reason why some prophesies may seem to be out of order. In reading my findings most people of the Christian belief will come to realize they are in difference in their belief with what I have found. The churches claiming to be of the Christian belief have many different ideas about this belief, and by knowing about those different ideas that churches teach, I was determined to prove or disprove what I believe some of which to be misguided ideas. Those churches that maintain the idea that by the Bible being presented as New and Old Testament in dividing it, determining the Old Testament as history only, are making a grave mistake. In truth much of the Old Testament portion of the Bible contains prophesy yet to come about. This includes the very first prophesy of the Bible found at Genesis 3:15 which is only partially fulfilled, and contains Gods promise of eventually removing Satan from power. I have determined that God is allowing the earths population time to come to the realization only He can provide for what man needs to maintain a happy and enjoyable life on the earth. Had He not allowed this time that has passed since the failure of our original parents, those living today would not have had the potential for life. He did not create man to live on this planet without needing His direction. The great thing one must come to realize is the fact that God has plans for the earth to return it to what he intended from the very beginning of his putting man on it. He put man in the Garden of Eden for the purpose of populating the earth with his fleshly beings in which he created in his own image. He did not create the earth for it to then become non existent. Of those that find things that I have put in writing that do not agree, I ask that they at least study the scriptures provided to decide if what they have been taught might be in error. A great amount of mans doctrines have been incorporated many years ago in their teaching that leads those astray that truly want Bible truth. Those that use discernment will know those false teachings are leading them in the wrong direction. There truly are many mysteries contained in the Bible that can easily be misunderstood. Even those chosen by Christ that served with him while he was on the earth to help with his teaching did not totally understand the destination of the earth until they were told in private what to expect. Most of the false teachings that are found in the Christian belief today were initiated in the very first century after the death of those personally taught by Jesus Christ. In order to maintain those false doctrines being taught in the churches today, many scriptures that prove them in error must be omitted from the Bible in order to present those false beliefs. The greatest hindrance of these false teachings is to those that consider the Old Testament as history only. To those that refuse to accept the Old Testament as containing prophesy yet to be fulfilled might as well forget about reading any further. These will never come to a good understanding of the B

A Better Understanding

A Better Understanding (Vol. 2)

Book Description

The information that I have presented in these writings is possibly controversial to the belief of others. In my search for Bible truth I have derived from others many of the conclusions found within these Biblical subjects. With each subject I have insisted on positive proof by finding supporting scriptures that prove their meaning. By doing extensive search of the scriptures I believe the things written here are closer to Bible truth than what others have found. I was prompted to get a better understanding of the scriptures by the fact that there are so many different beliefs being taught in the Christian churches. I have tried to keep an open mind about those things that I have heard from the many ministers of the churches that I have attended. I have always been with the idea that if one just accepts what you are being told in these churches, there is a danger, because you are putting your salvation in anothers hands. I have come to believe there are many false ideas being taught by those ministers of the Christian belief. I believe those ministers are sincere with their teaching, but I also believe they in many ways have it wrong. I have considered the old saying if you are being led by a blind man, and he falls into the ditch, you also will fall into that ditch. I feel strongly that each one of us is responsible for our own salvation by hopefully getting it right. The things I have written are my opinion and one must decide upon reading if it agrees with your understanding. For many years I have done extensive study of the scriptures, and believe I have found a more truthful understanding of those scriptures. I believe in what I have found so strongly that I feel I must tell others.

Automatic milking, a better understanding

Book Description

"In 2000 the book Robotic Milking, reflecting the proceedings of an International Symposium which was held in The Netherlands came out. At that time, commercial introduction of automatic milking systems was no longer obstructed by technological inadequacies. Particularly in a few west-European countries, systems were being installed at an increasing rate. However, it was recognised that the changeover from 'traditional' to automatic milking affected the farming operation, herd management and control of milk quality profoundly and that many of the implications were still unknown. So, new challenges in various fields of dairy farming and new research areas emerged. Since this previous International Symposium, much has happened. In general automatic milking has been adopted as a realistic alternative for milking in the 'traditional' milking parlour. Systems have gradually been improved and, maybe even more importantly, farmers have become more familiar with their potential and limitations, both technically and in herd management. The number of farms milking with an automatic milking system has worldwide increased to more than 2.200 by the end of 2003 . From 2000 to now, the level of scientific knowledge on various aspects and consequences of automatic milking has increased largely as well because of research efforts all over the world. A significant share of these efforts has been made within the framework of a EU-granted project on the implications of the introduction of automatic milking on dairy farms. Some seven research institutes and six industrial companies from six countries joined their expertise and experience in order to facilitate a widespread adoption of automatic milking without undesirable side effects. This book reflects the knowledge on automatic milking generated all over the world in the last few years. Its contents can therefore be regarded as the present state of knowledge in the field of automatic milking, for a better understanding."

To Come to a Better Understanding

Book Description

To Come to a Better Understanding analyzes the cultural encounters of the medicine men and clergy meetings held on Rosebud Reservation in St. Francis, South Dakota, from 1973 through 1978. Organized by Father Stolzman, a Catholic priest studying Lakota religious practice, the meetings fit the goal of the recently formed Medicine Men’s Association to share its members’ knowledge about Lakota thought and ritual. Both groups stated that the purpose of the historic theological discussions was “to come to a better understanding.” Though the groups ended their formal discussions after eighty-four meetings, Sandra L. Garner shows how this cultural exchange reflects a rich Native intellectual tradition and articulates the multiple meanings of “understanding” that necessarily characterize intercultural encounters. Garner examines the exchanges of these two very different cultures, which share a history of inequitable power relationships, to explore questions of cultural ownership and activism. These meetings were another form of activism, a “quiet side” without the militancy of the American Indian Movement. Based on ethnographic fieldwork and archival analysis, this volume focuses on the medicine men participants—who served as translators, interpreters, and cultural mediators—to explore how modern political, social, and religious issues were negotiated from an indigenous perspective that valued experience as critical to understanding.

Toward a Better Understanding of Rule-Breaking Market Behavior

Book Description

This book analyzes how companies and employees can endogenously, i.e., without hiring external experts or consultants, achieve competitive advantages by deviating from behavioral standards in a productive way. The study explores eight transformative behavioral innovations that shaped the development of sports and, by analogy, uses the findings to advance solutions for prevalent problems in business. By developing triggers to creativity and applying mechanisms on how to overcome innovation resistance, the book gives concrete advice on how to manage the difficult quest of human transformation beyond the imperative of technological innovation.
