A BOOMER'S TALE Or I Ain't Dead Yet

Book Description

Hello fellow Baby Boomers and those who would like to read a book that may explain your parents, grandparents, and some of your great grandparents. This is the story of one of these Baby Boomers, me. My book, A Boomer's Tale, is a fun and sometimes serious stroll through the life and times of me. I interject as much humor as I can, in the hope that I can entertain while educating you starting with my early childhood in the 50's coming of age in the 60's and 70's. My Marine Corps and Vietnam experiences, my post-military life growing a family along with a long-haul trucking career, up till today will entertain and educate. You fellow Boomers and Vietnam vets may see yourself in these pages. This is the kind of book I wish my parents and grandparents would have written, so I could have better known their lives. Foreword: Growing up in the 1960s near Chicago is depicted with wit and charm. Ed introduces the reader to the inside working of the adolescent male mind as he navigates dating and relationship ups and downs. Other Vietnam Era veterans will see themselves in this account and relate to the constant struggle to 'soldier on' when you don't feel like it. This was written at the beginning of what will surely be a creative and productive retirement. Thanks for the memories. Love, Gina

Sorry Millennials, We're Not Dead Yet

Book Description

The Boomer Rebellion shines a defiant, yet creative spotlight on the injustice of ageism and the casting of Boomers as now irrelevant in society, whether professionally, personally or as social activists. The book advocates that Boomers return to their Sixties roots of protest, bringing the generation back together, taking on this Rebellion as their legacy accomplishment to once again shake up the world. This Rebellion builds a powerful and creative movement, in-person and online, in collaboration with the Millennial Generation, who are both their adversaries and their partners, learning from each other the methodologies and values of their generations. In the second half of the book, The Manifesto, ten big unexpected creative ideas are presented as the core building blocks. These ideas not only meant to propel the Rebellion towards success, but also demonstrate that creativity and Big Ideas are the path to both personal and professional relevancy and transition. Throughout, the Manifesto is laced with both the "Wake-Up Calls" and "The Journey," the author's own dramatic stories, struggles and transition from being professionally discarded to emerging several years later as relevant and in-demand.

It’s a gift to reach old age and to arrive there well and ready for more years. The two authors of Not Dead Yet find that it’s time now to tidy-up their lives—to live fully in the moment with less clutter, better planning, and to free themselves to travel more, read, work, volunteer, and enjoy grown children and grandchildren. These later years bring challenges but also the advantage of wisdom about their minds and bodies. Not Dead Yet is the one book that brings home all the challenges in witty, meaty chapters that provide realistic solutions through the experiences of its two female septuagenarian authors, as well as through those of other boomer women and men of varying incomes, religions, ethnicities, and locations. From sex and dating to travel and volunteer work, writers Barbara Ballinger and Margaret Crane, who faced becoming single in their last book, Suddenly Single After 50, now cope with the older decades by employing the same humor, honest storytelling, empathy, and energy. Boomers

Book Description

The action of this daytime soap opera is set just before today - when DOS and slower-than-snails modems ruled, and weekends were long and sybaritic; when Friday night meant singles bars, and Sunday night, singles at the church; when the high days of sexual frisson would segue into the plague and its sexual terror. In the course of nine mini-seasons, narrator Judy confesses to and discloses the high jinxes and desperations that have led to the way we live now. Judy offers, in conversations with her psychoanalyst and with her friends, full but treacherous disclosure. This darkly humorous sitcom of Boomer manners should be required reading for an understanding of the generation that realized and betrayed the sexual revolution; the generation that, ever at war with itself, fashioned a world of perpetual war. The unforgettable characters in this novel will strike a chord with those who know and love members of the Boomer generation. Fred Korn, born in New York and educated in the Midwest, has lived for many years in Florida, Illinois, Idaho, Ontario, and Italy. A retired educator, he has published poetry and prose in a variety of journals. He has also exhibited his photographs in galleries on both coasts as well as in the Midwest. After decades of research in the field, he lives near Lake Champlain in a small community of dairy farmers, cows, sheep, and alpacas.
