A Course of Lectures on the Principal Subjects in Pneumatology, Ethics, and Divinity, Vol. 1

Book Description

Excerpt from A Course of Lectures on the Principal Subjects in Pneumatology, Ethics, and Divinity, Vol. 1: With References to the Most Considerable Authors on Each Subject This work was originally drawn up for the use of the students under the Author's care; but it appears by a clause in his will, that it was his intention it should be published after his decease. And though it would, no doubt, have appeared to much greater advantage, if the Author had prepared it himself for the press; yet it is hoped that it will not be thought, even in its present form, unworthy of the public view. The transcript from which it was printed, I have carefully compared with the original shorthand copy, and the public may be assured, that the Author's sentiments have been every where scrupulously preserved; no other alterations having been made, than such as are necessary in all posthumous works, that have not had the Author's last hand. A few references have been added, particularly to some books published since the Author's death, and others omitted, that seemed less important. If the reader should think the references under the fame head are sometimes too much alike; he will please to confider, that though the sentiments in each may be nearly the same, yet the different manner of expression will often serve more fully to explain and illustrate the subject: besides, that one Author may be at hand, when the other is not.
