Book Description

Robert McFarland (d. 1815) and Martha Burnside (1753-1836), both of Scottish ancestry, were married in Ireland and immigrated to America shortly after their wedding. They settled first in Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, near Harrisburg. They had eight children, 1779-ca. 1794. After the Revolutionary War, the family settled in Washington County, Pennsylvania, and Hartford Township, Trumbull County, Ohio. Descendants listed lived in Ohio, Pennsylvania and elsewhere.

Book Description

John McFarland emigrated from Scotland in 1772 with his children Parlane and Jane and settled in North Carolina. Parlane (ca. 1758-1813), married Flora McKay and they had six children. The family moved to Mississippi after Parlane's death. Traces descendants to the author, Robert McFarland, son of Joe Alex McFarland (1913-1970).

James MacFarlane (or McFarland) was born ca. 1793 in Ireland or Scotland. He married Margaret Lamont (or Lamond) 17 May 1823 in Ireland. They lived near Ballymoney Parish, County Antrim, Ireland. Their sons Jim McFarland and John McFarlsnd immigrated to America in the mid 1800s and settled in South Dakota. The American descendants of James McFarland and Margaret Lamont lived primarily in South Dakota.
