A Selected List of Plays for Amateurs and Students of Dramatic Expression in Schools and Colleges (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from A Selected List of Plays for Amateurs and Students of Dramatic Expression in Schools and Colleges The list herewith offered is intended to be a first aid to the amateur actor and dramatic stu dent: to suggest the various firms who publish plays, to note some of their publications which seem to the compilers to be especially adapted to amateur standards, to collect the elusive but valuable material existing in manuscript form or published by the author, and to call to mind the beautiful dramatic poems by our standard authors which lie at hand in every library. The work of putting these poems into acting form is often one of the most interesting tasks of the presentation. A Selected List of Plays for Amateurs and Students of Dramatic Expression in Schools and Colleges

Book Description

Excerpt from A Selected List of Plays for Amateurs and Students of Dramatic Expression in Schools and Colleges A list of plays suitable for amateurs and students of dramatic expression in schools and colleges seems to me to meet a distinct need. There is a growing feeling in our educational institutions that dramatic study not only serves to afford pleasurable entertainment, but forms an important element in educational discipline. There are few schools that do not give one or more plays each year, often devoting to them much serious study. During the past few years I have received frequent letters from teachers and superintendents of schools asking me to recommend plays suitable for their purpose. It is a difficult matter to give advice in individual cases, and involves a considerable amount of work: I welcome most heartily this systematized effort to give in compact form the information needed. I have carefully examined the list of plays here presented and I gladly give it my sincere commendation. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Plays for Amateurs (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from Plays for Amateurs The cultivation of the dramatic instinct is of vital im portance to every one. For play is the universal expression of the creative impulse. It is the purest and most spiritual activity of mankind, declared Froebel long ago, and holds the source of all that is good. Yet the important place of the dramatic in the life of the child and youth has, until recent years, received but little attention. Its educational values have been but vaguely under stood, and, for the most part, they have been completely neglected.
