A Treatise on Surgical Anatomy, Vol. 1 (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from A Treatise on Surgical Anatomy, Vol. 1 What these defects are, he has endeavoured to explain in the Address prefixed to this work. Further reflec tion convinced him, that most of the obstacles which retarded the progress of the Student might be removed, by devising a plan of instruction, which Should point out at each step, the practical application of anatomi cal researches to surgical uses. And the rapid advances in useful knowledge, made by the Pupils, since the adoption of such a plan, have served to confirm his opinion of its utility. Surgical Anatomy, Vol. 1 of 3

Book Description

Excerpt from Surgical Anatomy, Vol. 1 of 3: A Treatise on Human Anatomy in Its Application to the Practice of Medicine and Surgery; Upper Extremity, Back of Neck, Shoulder, Trunk, Cranium, Scalp, Face This book has been twelve years in preparation. During this time, while no change has been made in its plan, its scope has been much enlarged, to meet a wider field than for which it was first intended. My original purpose was to furnish for students a text-book Of Surgical Anatomy, then much needed and not obtainable by them. 2i have made a book which will be serviceable, I hope, not alone to them, but to practising physicians and surgeons. While, I regret to say, this subject is much neglected in our American institutions, there came to be, nevertheless, during the progress of this work, an increasing and encouraging recognition Of its importance. In some schools the course was much enlarged in others new courses were established. In my own classes the work has constantly grown, until it has become not alone an adjunct to, and application of, descriptive anatomy, but rather the bridge between that study and practice of surgery itself. To meet these requirements it has not been sufficient for me to emphasize and clarify the facts of descriptive anatomy as required Of undergraduates. I have been compelled to bring to them the knowledge Of anatomy which I have used and as I have used it in surgical practice. My book has kept pace with this change and growth. I have in no case cut down descriptions nor the teaching devoted to surgical anatomy, nor directions for and procedure in dissection, but I have added much relating to surgical work. I have endeavored to regard fully the necessities of undergraduates, and at the same time have had in mind constantly the requirements which they will meet as surgeons in their chosen field, and have tried to make for them a sufficient work of reference for use in actual practice. A Treatise on Surgery, Vol. 1 (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from A Treatise on Surgery, Vol. 1 In presenting a new work on Surgery the author has endeavored to bring together the most recent and improved methods of surgical practice, and, with the aid of numerous cross - references, to arrange these ina form readily available to the student and practitioner. As a necessary preliminary to this, the so - called art of surgery, the effort has been made to set forth the fundamental principles underlying what is known as the science of surgery in both an interesting and an instructive manner. The study of inflammation from the surgical viewpoint is based on the tissue changes that follow the infliction of wounds. Contrary to the usual custom the subject of Surgical Bacteriology is introduced in connection with the etiology of inflammation, in which it is an important factor. The grouping of the topics differs somewhat from the arrangement usually employed, as will be seen by reference to the table of contents. It is believed that the study of the subject will? Be facilitated by this method of classification. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Principles and Practice of Surgery, Vol. 1

Book Description

Excerpt from The Principles and Practice of Surgery, Vol. 1: Being a Treatise on Surgical Diseases and Injuries The present volume is the first part of a work on the Principles and Practice of Surgery. For a quarter of a century I have been unceasingly occupied with the study of anatomy and surgery, and during most of that time have been actively engaged, as a public instructor, in communicating the great teach ings of these closely-allied branches, in the hospitals of Philadelphia and in the halls of the University of Pennsylvania, to thousands of young men from all parts of the United States and to many from foreign countries. Most of the pages have been written, not in what may be termed moments of leisure, but during the hours of the night, - hours stolen from the time usually allotted to the repose of body and mind, and after the daily labors of an exacting public and private practice. The Science and Art of Surgery, Being a Treatise on Surgical Injuries, Diseases, and Operations, Vol. 1 (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from The Science and Art of Surgery, Being a Treatise on Surgical Injuries, Diseases, and Operations, Vol. 1 Notwithstanding every desire to prevent any unnecessary increase in the size of the Volumes, it has been found impossible to keep them within the limits even of the last Edition, and a considerable addition to the text has been rendered unavoidable, although much matter that was somewhat obsolete has been struck out. Several chapters have been recast, and some almost rewritten. The alterations and additions thus made have not been confined to any one part of the Work, but have been very generally distributed through the various subjects of which it treats. Many of the woodcuts have been redrawn, and nearly a hundred new illustrations have been added. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
