Small-scale Palm Oil Processing in Africa

Book Description

This publication provides information on the processing of palm oil fruits for the extraction of palm oil and palm kernel oil by small-scale mills in Africa. It is hoped that this will help promote the improvement of yield and quality of palm oil production and contribute to the modernisation of small-scale palm oil factories in Africa.

Women in Food Processing

Book Description

This report is an economic assessment of the actual and potential impact of the introduction of appropriate technology to women who are engaged in traditional palm oil processing. In Jago village, Oyo State, Nigeria, a mini-mill for palm oil processing was established with the Alafia Tayo Women's Cooperative in 1988/89. The mill is entirely run and managed by women, has been designed and fabricated locally and is largely maintained and repaired by local artisans.
