Alabama Landings

Book Description

The commercial production of fishery products from the Alabama coastal area during July 1956 amounted to 1.8 million pounds. This was 130 thousand pounds (8 percent) more than the amount landed in July 1955. Decreases in landings of mullet, hard crabs, and oysters were offset by gains in the production of shrimp, flounders, and red snapper. An increase in 15 percent in shrimp catches was the principal reason for the greater yield during July of this year. Shrimp (1.4 million pounds), hard crabs (182 thousand pounds), mullet (110 thousand pounds), and red snapper (74 thousand pounds) led all other items in volume and accounted for 95 percent of the total July 1956 landings.
