Quarter Notes and Friends

Book Description

QUARTER NOTES AND FRIENDS is a string method book designed for the 1st year elementary music student. It differs from other method books in a number of ways. Here are two vital areas. First, it is the only book that develops the student's steady beat/counting skills. This beat development is presented and practiced in an easy to do, understandable, progression directly connected to the written music notation. The second major difference is the organization of the material. The book has five general sections. Once students acquire the beginning skills, the teaching of virtually any page after the first section is possible. This design permits the teacher to select and teach lessons according to the needs of the class. QUARTER NOTES AND FRIENDS is innovative in a number of areas: 1. rhythm development linked directly to the steady beat, 2. three different starting pages, 3. the education of sharps, flats, and naturals, 4. the book's layout, 5. teacher freedom to choose what, when, and how to teach a lesson, 6. a fingering chart that may be played together by all instruments. The goal of QUARTER NOTES AND FRIENDS for the student is to learn to play, read and sight-read written music notations; to play with a steady beat, to develop excellent instrument skills, to develop physical skills, to develop musicianship. The goal of QUARTER NOTES AND FRIENDS is to provide the instructor with a tool: that permits the instructor to teach the material when and how they desire, that develops a steady beat/counting, that develops reading and playing written music notation, that provides ample amounts of music for the development of sight-reading and instrument skills. QUARTER NOTES AND FRIENDS consists of over 250 song/exercises and 4 major scales, visually connects the beat to the notes, uses addition to introduce longer duration notes, perfect for the once or twice a week music program; ideal for string classes, ensembles, or individual instruction; comprised of fun familiar, international, and specialty design songs.
