Ancient History Refined

Book Description

Ancient History Refined combines the study of creation, secular science, and the Bible to present a groundbreaking theory that reconciles ancient historical records with events in the Holy Book. Jeff Walling presents the Barnes & Humphreys theory related to C-14 dating, which has proved to be accurate in calculating the measured values for the existence, strength, and the decay rate of the magnetosphere. Up until now, creationists and Bible scholars have neglected to consider this science when dating historical events, and they’ve failed to make the necessary alignment/synchronizations of time periods from Biblical chronologies with secular chronologies. Walling avoids that mistake, applying his B&H theory to the Egyptological chronologies based on the C-14 dates given to artifacts of associated time periods (see appendix B). While researching, he observed strict adherence to the scientific method. Whether you’re a historian, Bible scholar, archeologist, pastor, or student, you’ll enjoy finding out how creation science solves mysteries of the past.

Sources for Ancient History

Book Description

If a scholar wishes to create a picture of a topical society in all its aspects, there is little of what he needs to know that he cannot know, although there may still be much that he cannot understand. For the history of Greece and Rome, there is a great deal that is simply unknowable. From the end of the archaic age of Greece, there is an unbroken sequence of works by Greek and, later, Roman historians down to the end of antiquity. Their vision and range of interest were often limited and much of what they produced has been lost. Some help may be derived from the documentary material supplied in antiquity, material that was the product of officials organising public activities, or heads of families organising their affairs, or individuals leaving their mark on the world. Beyond this, the evidence of archaeology and numismatics may also be helpful. The four essays in this book set out to characterise the nature of the ancient literary tradition, the inscriptional material, the archaeological and numismatic evidence and to explain how and for what purposes they may be used.

Ancient History and the Antiquarian

Book Description

Arnaldo Momigliano was convinced that all disciplines need to be aware of their own history. His famous lecture Ancient History and the Antiquarian, delivered in 1949 at the Warburg Institute, and published in 1950 in the Journal of the Warburg and Courtauld Institutes, has become a landmark. In it he showed how historiography had been changed by the recognition that what historians had left out of the record could be put back by the antiquarians. He argued that a comprehensive interest in the vestiges of ancient civilization, beginning in the Renaissance and refined and enlarged during the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries, made a rigid distinction between historical and antiquarian studies unjustifiable; furthermore, the standards set by the antiquarians in the understanding and interpretation of the past still have relevance.

The Western Time of Ancient History

Book Description

This book examines the conceptual and temporal frames through which modern Western historiography has linked itself to classical antiquity. In doing so, it articulates a genealogical problematic of what history is and a more strictly focused reappraisal of Greek and Roman historical thought. Ancient ideas of history have played a key role in modern debates about history writing, from Kant through Hegel to Nietzsche and Heidegger, and from Friedrich Creuzer through George Grote and Theodor Mommsen to Momigliano and Moses Finley; yet scholarship has paid little attention to the theoretical implications of the reception of these ideas. The essays in this collection cover a wide range of relevant topics and approaches and boast distinguished authors from across Europe in the fields of classics, ancient and modern history and the theory of historiography.
