Annual Report of the Public Printer

Book Description

Excerpt from Annual Report of the Public Printer: For the Fiscal Year Ended June 30, 1907 The adaptation of new business methods in the Government Print ing Office, adequate to cope with the constantly increasing demands. Of Congress, the Executive Departments, and the numerous smaller governmental publishers; the purchase and installation of machinery and other equipment capable of meeting the present needs, and susceptible of the expansion and readjustment which continued growth, such as that of the past year, will make necessary, and the selection and instruction of competent officers to properly supervise and improve the output of this enormous institution, are tasks of no small magnitude. Considerable progress has been made in the development of the cost, audit, and inventory systems now being introduced into every branch of the work of the Office. No delay has been occasioned by their installation, and reliable information is now quickly obtainable, whereas heretofore only conjectural statistics could be secured. As an aid to more intelligent action, the systems are proving a valuable addition, and in every section of the Office are assisting in producing the work accurately and on time and also in obtaining a complete record of the cost thereof.
