Aparokshanubhuti is an original composition of Sri Adi Sankaracharya, is an introductory text explaining the fundamental concepts and terminologies used in Vedanta, the Science of Life. Literally meaning the "Indirect Experience," it is a hands-on book for anyone who seeks the essential nature of reality and existence. The commentary by Swami Chinmayananda on this text brings out a very modern outlook on this age-old composition. His compelling logic and reasoning puts the stated ideas and concepts in its most pragmatic form enabling us to use it as a vehicle for contemplation and meditation on the highest Truth as declared in the Scriptures.

A classic text on the path to God through knowledge. The basic teaching is that God alone is the all-pervading reality; the individual soul is none other than the universal soul. Shankara was under no illusions about this world. For this reason, he is able to describe so powerfully the complete transformation of the universe that takes place before the eyes of the illumined seer, when the world indeed becomes a paradise.

This is one of the most important works of Sankaracharya on Advaita philosophy. The central theme of the book is the identity of the Jivatman (individual self) and Paramatman (Universal Self). This identity is realized through the removal of the ignorance that hides the truth by the light of enquiry alone. To those who have neither the time nor the opportunity to go through the classical works of Sankaracharya, this book will be an invaluable guide in their quest after spiritual truth. This book contains the Sanskrit text with word-for-word translation, English rendering, and valuable comments. Published by Advaita Ashrama, a publication house of Ramakrishna Math, Belur Math, India.

Isha Upanishad is the first among eleven principal Upanishads on which Shankara has written a commentary. He shows that the performance of actions cannot remove our ignorance. Knowledge alone can dispel it. I have done a comprehensive analysis of this fact in the preface due to its importance. If we are attached to the results of our actions, the scriptures prescribe the performance of rituals; however, if we seek liberation, it is the path of knowledge that the scriptures prescribe. Our ignorance hides the ever-present non-dual reality as the clouds hide the sun that creates them by absorbing the water. Self-knowledge destroys this veil of ignorance. In this state, one identifies with the universal oneness, where there is no second. Hence, there cannot be any hatred, illusion, or disappointment.
