As The Chasm Grows... (The Black HipHop & Black-American Cultural Contrast)

Book Description

When you think of Black-Americans, what image(s) come to your mind? Honestly, what do you see when you think of a Black-American male and a Black-American female? Now that you have an image when you think of Black-American culture, what are your thoughts now? If it doesn’t take long for images and ideas about our culture to come to your mind; take a moment to now think if those images/thoughts are fueled by stereotypes and would any of those images/thoughts be considered offensive in any way? Now let’s do the exact same exercise but this time I want you to think of HipHop culture. Is there any overlap in terms of images/thoughts you had concerning Black-American culture when you pictured HipHop culture? Given that many of the most popular artists in HipHop are Black people, I don’t think it is uncommon if the two cultures were in alignment when you thought about both and therein lies the crux of this book. The HipHop Community has many subcultures and genres of art forms that are immensely popular worldwide; given the aforementioned statement regarding the race of some of HipHop’s most recognizable figures, it is easy for those outside of the Black Community to meld both Black HipHop and Black-American culture together. The goal of this book is to show how over time a divide has grown between the two and as that chasm grows it is likely time to start defining each culture a little more clearly. As a representative of Black-American culture, this is the groundwork I hope to lay here.

Growing Up in God's Country

Book Description

A #1 NEW RELEASE ON AMAZON! El McMeen hails from rural Pennsylvania. His full name is “Elmer Ellsworth McMeen, III.” That’s a good name for a kid, El says, if you want him to learn how to fight in elementary school. El didn’t start so well. He wasn’t on the gravy train, more like in front of it, waiting to get run over. He nearly died at birth. He has cerebral palsy. He had a broken home. He was, in his own words, a “miscreant.” But his story is one of redemption. El became a “Wall Street lawyer,” an internationally acclaimed acoustic guitarist, and a Christian minister. He and his wife Sheila have four married children and three grandchildren. “The Lord became my GPS,” El says, “but in my case He still has to do a lot of ‘recalculating.’” Join El on his journey. He is a gifted storyteller. The road winds through physical disability, youthful misdeeds, family tragedy, Harvard University, Penn Law School, music, and the intricacies of law practice, with a lot of laughs along the way. From small-town life to New York City, and back. "Growing Up in God’s Country" is unabashedly evangelistic. It shows the amazing ways in which God moves in everyday lives. God has a sense of humor, too. If He didn’t, El says, where did ours come from?

Counsel for Couples

Book Description

You aren't a licensed marriage and family therapist. You didn't do a doctoral dissertation on pastoral counseling. You're simply God's person caring for God's people in the local church. And the marriages in your church need help. Many pastors feel ill-equipped to handle the challenges that arise when a couple is going through marital difficulties. They feel lost and inadequate. What do you say? What counsel do you offer? Should I say anything or just listen? Do I schedule a follow-up appointment? Do I ask questions? What questions? If you are or have been in this situation before, this book offers you a practical guide to get started with the first sessions and then offers specific guidance on nine of the most common topics that come up in marriage counseling. Author and pastor Jonathan Holmes offers a solid, biblical theology and methodology to help you navigate through the world of marriage counseling with the fundamental conviction that God's word is powerful enough to address the deepest of marital issues, and robust enough to handle whatever might come your way. In each chapter, you'll meet a new couple dealing with a different issue, much like the people in your church, office, and neighborhood. Through the book you'll also hear advice from several respected voices in the biblical counseling community. Whether you're a novice or already knowledgeable, Counsel for Couples provides theologically sound and biblically practical tools to help you as you help couples in need.

Visualizing Marketing

Book Description

This book focuses on marketing graphics, figures, and visual artifacts discussed in marketing theory in order to explain and discuss the marketing concepts visually and open a door to future predictions of the evolution of such marketing concepts. Marketing concepts are, by nature, abstract and there is a need for approaches that provide a clear picture of such concepts and concrete and hands-on knowledge tools to students, scholars, and practitioners. Furthermore, the recent rising importance and popularity of marketing metrics make visualization of such important marketing phenomena possible. Visualizing or concretizing of marketing data is more important than ever as the usage and presentation of such enormous amounts of data requires visual representation. Thus, the book provides collection of such marketing visualization examples that can help marketing scholars and students to make sense of marketing concepts and their data, so that they can develop clearer and winning marketing strategies.
