(1) thanks Flower for his invitation to visit Stratford. Hopes to see Flower's son (probably C.E. Flower), whom Longfellow had the pleasure of knowing in America. With accompanying envelope. (2) is a letter of introduction for Longfellow's friends Mr. and Mrs. Dixwell. Also, an autograph sheet with the title of "Poems of places," edited by Longfellow and published in 1876, with a line from Crabbe.

A collection of 8 autograph letters signed from Longfellow to Hannah Davie, former governess to his daughters, and 1 autograph letter from Longfellow to the Governesses' Benevolent Institution written on behalf of Hannah Davie. The collection also includes 12 scraps of paper with quotations written on them, possibly in Longfellow's hand. Letters in the collection have been described in separate records (MA 233.1-9); the 12 scraps of paper have been described as a collection (MA 233.10).
