This volume contains inscriptions from cemeteries in northern Baltimore County, Maryland, with a few cemeteries in the central area. The inscriptions from sixty-one cemeteries were copied over a period of years by volunteer members of the Cemetery Committee of the Baltimore County Historical Society. The location of each cemetery is provided. A surname index adds to the value of this work.

St. Mary's Cemetery on Homeland Avenue in Baltimore, Maryland, was established in 1850, although the oldest grave marker is dated 1846. In June 1985, members of the Baltimore County Genealogical Society went to St. Mary's Cemetery and read the tombstones, with the exception of the Marion Section. The transcripts of those tombstone inscriptions are contained in this volume. Whenever possible, questionable entries were verified and corrected.

Book Description

The Pro-Cathedral was St. Peter's Catholic Church, whose cemetery operated 1791-1815, and the cathedral, dedicated in 1821, is known as Basilica of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary; burials in the Pro-Cathedral cemetery were transferred to the Cathedral Cemetery in 1815; burials in the Cathedral Cemetery were transferred to the New Cathedral Cemetery 1874-1887; neither cemetery exists now.
