The idea of the Hydrogen Romantic book came to my mind after working for several years with the leading hydrogen energy scientists and observing their activities. One of those scientists, Dr. Turhan Nejat Veziroglu, has devoted his life to this topic, becoming much loved and respected around the world. In addition to all the momentous events in which Dr. Veziroglu has been involved, his memories are very interesting. Such a life is almost like navigating the pages of history, allowing admirers to gain information without being bored. I asked him to spend one hour with me every day, so I could interview him. During those one-hour periods, I asked him questions, and I recorded his responses. After I finished the interviews, I listened to the recordings. From this, I wrote the book. In addition, I did research on the sections dealing with the historical events. I've added this research as narratives in the book.

The fast growing traffic demand in telecommunication networks, by use of the Internet and an increasing number of broadband services for multimedia com munications, requires new high performance networking technologies. As such, optical WDM networks are playing a pivotal role. Wavelength Division Mul tiplexing (WDM) with many hundreds of wavelength channels per fiber is ex tensively being exploited in wide area networks. With respect to the ongoing trend towards a completely packet-switched mode of operation for all services, WDM networks must be prepared accordingly. This work concentrates on optical packet-switched networking in local and metro area networks for realizing high-performance applications like virtual re ality, medical imaging, and supercomputing. It is well known that in those networks using a star, bus, or ring shared medium, an access protocol is nec essary to guarantee controlled and fair access for all attached nodes. Similar access protocols are to be developed and analyzed for WDM local and metro area networks. Already, many media access protocols for these networks have been described in the literature. However, some aspects of Quality-of-Service (QoS) for different service classes are still an open issue and subject to inten sive research activities. In the introduction, the author, Dr. Kemal Bengi, gives a short classification of media access protocols and network architectures for WDM local and metro area networks. The need for service classes is also em phasized.

This book sheds new light on the relationship between religion and state in early modern Japan, and demonstrates the growing awareness of Shinto in both the political and the intellectual elite of Tokugawa Japan, even though Buddhism remained the privileged means of stately religious control. The first part analyses how the Tokugawa government aimed to control the populace via Buddhism and at the same time submitted Buddhism to the sacralization of the Tokugawa dynasty. The second part focuses on the religious protests throughout the entire period, with chapters on the suppression of Christians, heterodox Buddhist sects, and unwanted folk practitioners. The third part tackles the question of why early Tokugawa Confucianism was particularly interested in “Shinto” as an alternative to Buddhism and what “Shinto” actually meant from a Confucian stance. The final part of the book explores attempts to curtail the institutional power of Buddhism by reforming Shinto shrines, an important step in the so called “Shintoization of shrines” including the development of a self-contained Shinto clergy.
