Book Description
Bookman's Price Index is an index to rare and antiquarian books offered for sale in the catalogs of100-200 book dealers in the United States, Canada, and the British Isles. Each main edition lists approximately 15,000 titles and covers catalogs from the previous 4-6 months. Volumes do not supersede previous volumes. Each cumulative index edition lists approximately 90,000 entries from the previous five editions of Bookman's Price Index. The Cumulative Index to Volumes 80-85 references editions published in 2005 and 2006.Entries in the main editions of Bookman's Price Index include title and author, edition, year published, and physical description (size, binding, illustrations); detailed description of the book's condition including flaws, amount of wear, and comment on scarcity; price as listed in catalog; and catalog source and number.Since the primary purpose of the cumulative index edition is to provide speedy access to tens of thousands of book titles, the complete entry as it appears in the main BPI volume is not repeated in the index edition. The components of a typical entry in the cumulative index edition include: author's name, book title, place of publication, date of publication, and the volume number(s) of the main edition(s) of Bookman's Price Index in which that title can be found. Arrangement is alphabetical by author; if no author, then by title.
