Catalogue of a Fine Collection of American Coins, the Property of H. E. Jones, Esq., Of Edinburgh

Book Description

Excerpt from Catalogue of a Fine Collection of American Coins, the Property of H. E. Jones, Esq., Of Edinburgh: To Which Is Added a Small Collection of Foreign Silver, to Be Sold Without Reserve at Auction, by Messrs. Leavitt, at Clinton Hall, Astor Place, on the Evening of Thursday, October 10th, 1878 In regard to the condition of the various pieces, we can assure intending purchasers at a distance that they have all been faithfully described, and, in cases of the slightest doubt, the condition of the coins has, if anything, been rather underestimated. To the large number of new collectors to whom this Catalogue will be sent, and who have not yet commenced to purchase their coins at auction, we would say in regard to the selling, each lot will be knocked clown to the highest bidder the lots are sold so much for each coin in it, so if you desire a lot of coins which contains ten, and you wish to pay for it, your bid should be 10 cents, which would be for the lot. Amateurs sending their bids in from a distance, should be very particular in regard to this. The Auctioneers. Messrs. Scott, and other dealers, will attend to the purchasing of any desired lots for parties unable to attend the sale, at a charge of 10 per cent. Always state your highest price. And rely on the honor of those you employ to make the purchases for you at as low a figure as possible. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Catalogue of the Collection of American Colonial and State Coins, United States Coins and Foreign Crowns, the Property of Clarence S. Bement, Esq. (Classic Reprint)

Book Description

Excerpt from Catalogue of the Collection of American Colonial and State Coins, United States Coins and Foreign Crowns, the Property of Clarence S. Bement, Esq. Mr. Clarence S. Bement has given me instructions to sell to the highest bidder at auction his collection of American Colonial, State and United States coins; also Foreign gold, silver and copper coins. He is a gentleman who spared no expense to procure as fine examples as possi ble, and at two of my great sales, the Earle and Baldwin collections, he made liberal purchases of many of the gems, so that the collector, in perusing the following pages, must at once be struck with the superlative condition of the coins. The cents are superb, and for one, the 1793 Liberty Cap, Mr. Bement paid me $500, the greatest price ever obtained for any U. S. Cent. The next highest price a U. S. Cent has ever brought was $37 5 for the wreath cent in the Sisson collection, sold by me on April 12 and 13, 1916, and of which Mr. Bement has an even more wonderful specimen, for his is bright red - original color. Collectors may feel sure of the coins meeting the descriptions in the catalogue, for I take great pains to carefully describe each item - not overrating - and if damaged or defective the fact has been mentioned; so bid all the lot is worth to you and you will not be disappointed.
